4mo wait….and I got the call my YM 40 is here!
Hello, I am new to the forum.
I was kinda bored back in September 2023 so I figured I would upgrade my Rolex Air-King that I purchased new in 2001. I am not really into watches/jewelry, and rarely even wear my Air-King anymore as I work 100% from home now. I went to 4 AD’s and looked at every watch I could and after trying on so many colors and styles I decided I wanted a Yacht-Master 40mm in Oystersteel and Everose gold with a black face. All 4 AD’s (including the dealer I bought my Air-King from) told me it could be 6-12mos (or longer), which was perfectly reasonable, so I put my name in to buy one. Fast forward 4 months to Jan 7th, 2024 and I get a phone call from 1 of the AD’s telling me that Rolex just sent something to their store that says they can order the YM 40 now with a 25% deposit down. I asked when the watch would come in and she told me that she couldn’t tell me a date of arrival so I was like wtf….I asked her what the point of this was then if I am just going to be waiting as if I had NOT given a deposit. She told me this was a limited time offer expiring Jan 30th and that Rolex sometimes does this for certain models. I then called 2 of the other dealers and they said they had no idea what the 1st AD was talking about, didn’t receive anything from Rolex about it, and they could not order the YM 40 but I was still on their “interest list’. The 4th dealer….well, I have never bought anything from them. The gal I spoke with in person originally has been with this jeweler for 30 years…..I called in and she was off so I left her a voicemail. However, something inside of me told me to call back and ask someone there about this “supposed” deal that Rolex had sent out to order a watch and so I did. The new gal says that Rolex doesn’t typically do that kind of limited order thing (but sometimes she can order some models—usually Datejusts) and asked me what watch I was trying to buy and I told her the YM 40. She pulls up my info and apparently someone mis-entered my info and I was on the “list” for an Explorer…..she says ‘Hang on a second”…..comes back on the line apologizing profusely for the error and simply says, “the owner just received the exact model you are looking for yesterday and if you want it its yours.” WOW…..I had to ask her to repeat herself to make sure I actually heard what I thought I heard (hah!) and I gave her a CC# to pay for it in full. I flew up to OR to pick it up (no sales tax) this weekend (I was already going to be in OR this weekend as I go there often so the timing was literally perfect). This is by far the most expensive thing I have ever purchased that didn’t require financing and I am so ecstatic to own it! Now…I need to figure out what I am going to do with my original Air-King… Hope this might help some people out there on waiting lists. I tried to post pics on my Mac and iPhone via Tapatalk but it says I can’t since I have less than 10 posts. Blah. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I typically spend my fun money on international traveling, cars, and clothing, in that order--never really cared about watches. :) I have zero regrets and this thing is effing beautiful. My company buys sales reps a new Blue Submariner once he/she hits a specific lifetime goal and I am about 2 years out from hitting it (It usually takes 20 years but I should hit it at 18 years in) so I will be getting one of those soon. I go back home to OR probably every other month so I am always there but usually in the Sisters/Bend area. Quote:
Nice MBZ! Do I have to hit 10 posts before I can post pics? |
