Coffin Packaging and Shipping
I want to start off with I am not going to rob an AD, but I am too scared to ask my AD this as it sounds sus AF.
My question is, I see lots of new watches on social media in these coffin boxes but not the large green box that is so iconic. What is the reason for this? How are they shipped to an AD? Do the green boxes get shipped separate and the watches are shipped via the "coffins"? TIA |

My understanding is that they are shipped in the coffin w/ all paperwork (i.e. warranty and manuals) and the boxes are bulk shipped since they are all the same for the most part. I think there are 3 different sizes small (smaller diameter watches), medium (most SS watches), large (PM watches)... At least this is my understanding... When I picked up my watches from the AD I've received both the green box and also the coffin.

The coffins are the actual shipping packages that Rolex uses to ship individual watches. The green boxes and white sleeves are shipped in bulk separately to the AD's.

As above that is how they are shipped to the AD.
I suppose people who post them on social media as a flex … wait … nevermind |

Correct. The watches used to be shipped in those plastic coffins but are now shipped in carboard boxes similar in size to the coffins.
The watches are shipped separately from the green Rolex display boxes. |

The older style was clear plastic.
The newer style is cardboard as brought out at an AD. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

Casket is the correct term, not coffin.
If not casket, then shipping box sounds a lot better.

Thanks for the information on the shipping box change. I do like the cardboard better, not that it matters.

Well, I’ll be dadgummed, Grady. I always thought the two words were interchangeable. Now I’m wondering why I picked out a casket for my late husband’s burial, although he was certainly a treasure. The AD gave me the coffin box that my Pepsi and SS Daytona were shipped in so it was cool to keep with the watches.
I have purchased several of the plastic versions on eBay that I used to ship other brand watches in for service and in most cases, they keep them and probably trash them and stretch wrap the watch to cardboard when they ship it back after service. I also use them to store watches in the safe, rather than putting them back in the boxes. |

Semantics. The plastic container Rolex are shipped in has been called a coffin as long as I can remember.

Coffin Packaging and Shipping
BTW, it’s not just Rolex. It’s the entire luxury watch industry, that uses similar looking watch caskets, to ship to their ADs. I used to buy brand new Omegas, fully stickered, from a grey dealer, who would ship them to me, in their caskets, in a large package, with the box and docs included. I wish I had a few of those back.

Do ADs still give these out if you ask for them? My AD takes off stickers and the white tags because they’ve been told by Rolex to do so, I’m guessing Rolex also tells ADs to discard these coffin boxes. If you ask for the coffin box does it look sus like you’re going to try to sell it in BNIB condition without intending to ever wear it? I’m asking because I would like to ask for this coffin box next time from my AD but I don’t want to give the wrong impression.

I miss the good old days when the manager at my local AD would go into the safe to pull watches out (true new!!! :D) for me that were still in their shipping coffins... Wish we could go back to those days.
What an experience that was...
