Tudor Black Bay 36 (2023) - Lume shrinkage

Hello all. I would like to address an issue on my black bay's luminova which i noticed it on January 22, 2024.

there is a "crack" (i would say) of the lume on the 12 spot within the triangle. If i could describe the issue, i would say it's like a pin pierced the spot and caused a small hole on it.

The Rolex service center of my country identified the hole and they said that it's absolutely normal due to the lume' liquid paste. The paste maybe didn't cover entirely the hour marker and they cant do anything about it.

The shrinked paste of the lume is visible with naked eye. I tried to convince them that the watch didnt have the problem when i bought it. It's frustrating and i cant bear seeing it.

The watch was bought from an AD brand new on November 11,2023 and until January 18, 2024 the "cracked" lume spot was not existed.

There are some relevant posts on the internet about other watches with similar problem (some of the are black bays).

I tried to get in contact with rolex in geneva but there is no company's email anywhere on the internet.

Any ideas here on how i should approach the problem to get the dial replaced within the warranty?

Unfortunately, i cant post any pictures or links as a new member.

Thank you in advance.

Go to a different service center! How can they say that’s normal? Mine is fine, and my watch is 3 years old now. If the triangle was not completely filled with lume, then it was an error. Hard to believe they won’t take responsibility, and fix it.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, there is only one service center in my country.

Also i attach some photos of the lume shrinkage. They are not in 4k but i assume it gets the job done.

I can't see anything out of the ordinary from those pictures except the normal shadow that can be seen on every lume plot.

I would try another AD or locating the service center and bringing it in directly if they allow such thing.

I've used Rolex warranty twice. Low magnification issue on my sub back in 2015 which was widespread and dust on my Oyster Perpetual dial in 2017. Both times I walked the watches into RSC and was able to point out the issues directly to a tech.

I don't really see anything, but slightly uneven lume application is pretty common. I don't see anything in that picture that would warrant a dial replacement

No doubt about it, very easy to see. Just go to the AD, they'll sort you out. Or, do what I'd do and just monitor and not worry.

Super beautiful watch, by the way.

Well Lume is just paint and like most all paint as it dries it can shrink or show miniscule tiny imperfections especially under high magnification. And doubt if it would effect the Lume glow in the dark myself would not worry about it.

You are right but the lume dismorphia is visible with naked eye.

Anyway, it's my first watch with this kind of lume material and i didn't know about this possible imperfection.

If in the next years under the warranty the lume deteriorates i will send it to the service center again.

That would bug me, too. I’m surprised the service Center refused to address it. Lovely Watch, though. Try to put it out of your mind, and enjoy it.
