Datejust TT, Wimbledon or Stick ?
I know, the age old question.
I am looking to buy a two tone Datejust. I just think they look stunning, classic and in some ways the ultimate daily dress watch I have settled on the oyster bracelet. I know the jubilee is more classic, but I like the sporty twist of the oyster, which also takes less away from the actual watch face visually. Fluted bezel is of course a must. This is IMHO, the whole thing is such individual taste. Nevertheless, I have been offered three now by two jewellers. I love all of them but need to pick one. For me, my comments are: 1. Motif dial and rose gold. Limited and probably worth the most used. Rose gold is slightly less flash then yellow gold. Very high on the beauty stakes, probably the least macho. 2. Wimbledon with romans. What can I say, the original marmite dial. Like the airking (which I love). I think it is stunning, in particular the grey brushed sunburst dial with a light lume coating, the green numerals and the contrast of the gold bezel. It is unique and very Rolex classic, and in someways the most stunning. 3. Black dial, yellow gold. The absolute classic. Strong contrast, beauty and goes with anything. Looking at the used market, definitely the popular TT There are many other combinations. I think one I come closest to after these is the champagne dial, which folk generally agree is the most classic with a jubilee bracelet. what do you guy/girls think ? |

I woudl normally pick the champagne dial, but for the oyster I think I prefer the black. Just seems to work and is a little more versitile maybe.

I’d personally go jubilee with the fluted. With the oyster bracelet, out of your options, I’d go with the champagne.

Good question OP. I’d go stick AND jubilee, but if you like the Oyster go for it. Here’s a 126231 with teal dial (same base dial as the Wimbledon) and stick markers. It’s my wife’s but i stole it

Datejust TT, Wimbledon or Stick ?
Here is the TT Wimbledon, on Oyster bracelet, with fluted bezel:
This would be my pic, for a guy. I got to try this on, at my AD. I loved it. For myself, I prefer the Jubilee bracelet. Kat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And for comparison the same with a Jubilee. Either way, look so much better in reality than on a screen.

I would go all out with yellow rolesor, the fluted champagne dial and jubilee bracelet. Datejust with fluted bezel is not the watch to be shy with.

I agree. for me, the TT is the quintessential DJ. And unlike some other styles where TT seems tacked on, it actually seems like the DJ is made for it

A jubilee is just about mandatory with a TT DJ imo. If you’re going to go with some flash, go all in. And agree with champagne of those choices. If there was a white stick option, I’d go with that. |

The oyster bracelet with the fluted bezel is actually very cool. It gives the watch a more sporty vibe, especially on mine, which is actually associated with sports: IMO, this is really special. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

actually, I think the oyster bracelet gives it more modern vibe. the jubilee is lovely, but I find that on the Wimbledon the face is quite complex and having a complex jubilee makes it seem almost too busy and fussy. but its all taste ;)

Agreed. What I find interesting about the Wimbledon dial is how much better it pops, in bimetal. Despite the dial’s complexity, it is not as interesting in all SS, even if fluted on Jubilee. It looks too monochromatic, to my eye. This is just my own opinion, of course, and hurray for anyone who has managed to procure the Wimbledon, in any configuration. Cheers! I would go with the whiteish silver stick motif myself. Never cared much for Roman numerals typically, there are a couple exceptions but in this one definitely the stick dial.

I’m eyeing the 36mm green dial in steel/white gold on jubilee. That’s as far as I can take a somewhat fru-fru watch that I wouldn’t want to wear everywhere. Two tone, Roman numerals or diamonds and such will always be out of the question.
When I see two tone datejust I’m thinking uncle with cigar or mobster. |
