Rolex Refubs listed higher than MSRP

Couldn't believe it. At one of my AD's the other day and they had a large collection of Official Rolex Refurbs for sale, for more than they cost new! I know this is common practice everywhere else, just was surprised to see it at the AD.
Nothing much surprises me much anymore.

Why would they sell a preowned for less than they can and are allowed to sell for?

Certified Pre Owned, it is genius. Sell the pre owned for more than the new. Andy Warhol “art is what you can get away with “

It seems reasonable they would expect market (reseller) price plus the cost of doing any service required to give a two year Rolex warranty, as long as there are buyers at that price.

This is old news. Search Rolex CPO (Certified Preowned) program. It’s been well documented here, on the forum.

This was the main discussion topic of the CPO program, and why people felt it wouldn't succeed.

It still seems like a wacky idea but it could end up working for Rolex in some weird way. Like here are the new watches you can't buy but over here are used watches for 50-200% more. It's proof they hold their value.

Does anyone know how successful the CPO program has been? Never seriously considered given the higher prices, but if I didn’t know of trusted sellers, would definitely think I’d lean that way for the safety and comfort of knowing you’re getting something from Rolex.

The program is taking hold at more and more ADs. Those who get their watchshop certified as a servicing center can make a bit more margin. This way, by working the buy and the sell side, and providing 2-yr warranty, they make more margin in Rolex product than the volume of new incoming inventory alone.

The buyer at the store I work at has said it's doing quite well. I have been told it has been difficult to keep the cases stocked.

The shipment of brand new watches will go straight into the CPO glass case. Tell me this won’t happen.

In all fairness, I would do that also if it was my AD, all with the blessing of Rolex. Just remove stickers and record a straw buyer.

The watch has to be at least two years old to be eligible for CPO

While technically correct, the watch also has to be at least three years old.

I see no issue with ADs selling certified pre owned Rolex at market rates.

Imagine if AD’s could sell new watches at any price they wanted…

My guess is the gray market would disappear and pre owned watches would be reasonable.

That’s relative to gray and preowned prices. As a watch, they’re rather expensive.

The prices are outrageous near me for watches in the CPO program. 20K for 2008 GMT and 46K for a White Dial stainless steel Daytona.

That could not work. Watches must be at least 3 years old to qualify for CPO program, which I now see now, has already been mentioned. If it’s true, that the program is doing well, I’m surprised. For those who think that ADs should be able to set their own prices, on new stock, then there would be no incentive to buy from an AD. We would all go grey, rather than be on a waiting list. Some of us, would give up on the brand. I see no upside, for ADs to do that.

Or Rolex could make enough watches per year to eliminate waiting lists, or the millions of people who aspired to own a Rolex lost interest.

Actually, imagination is not required. I can remember when my AD sold me Rolex watches at a discount. No chance of that at present but nothing lasts forever.

The last watch I bought from them was an Omega at significantly below MSRP.

... and then proceed to lose their Rolex AD status, and go bankrupt.
