Rolex Late 1970s Potential Stella Dial
Hi guys,
Looking for some advise on a watch I’m considering. The watch in question is a 1978 rolex day date with what appears to be a burgundy dial and just wondering if you guys think this could be a Stella? Photo attached - The outer ring and T Swiss T stamping is correct for the year but haven’t seen another burgundy dial outside the Stella which isn’t a vignette. Would really appreciate your guys thoughts Brad |

First thing, that photo is not very clear.
The lume dots look off to me so perhaps at minimum a relume job. There were stick and WG diamond marker stella dials available for both the non-quick 1803 and early single-quick 18038/9. There are several sites that talk about 70’s stella dials and one link with some examples is below. https://millenarywatches.com/stella-...-stella-dials/ The example you’ve provided has a similar Stella look with the exception of the lume to me, but people have learned to replicate almost everything Rolex related. So much clearer macro photos of front and back of the dial would be needed IMO to truly check authenticity.

Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
The lume was throwing me off as does look very fresh - I did wonder if it’s a refinished champagne dial. The second photo below is showing as a lot more suburst than Stella’s I’ve seen. I’m yet to come across a factory dial from this era that looks like that but could just be the lighting. Last edited by braderz123; 18 February 2024 at 07:26 AM.. Reason: Error |

Look at the position of the 11 o’clock diamond. It’s absurd.

Oversized Window is an odd thing that fakers have done as is the random smattering of HR markers esp 8,4,11 and 1!!
