Rolex CPO Vintage
Hi all I am on the hunt for a 5513 in the UK, found a no box, no paper official Rolex CPO 1966 at an AD for £13800 ($17k USD ish). This feels around 30/40% more than market price but wanted to check here as I love the watch and it's obviously been through Rolex's service centre whilst retaining the creamy markers. I have only bought modern so a little bit overwhelmed with how much there is online on the 5513. Appreciate any help/advice.

What is the question? It seems you know the deal. You're paying a huge premium for a certified watch, but if it's a one-off purchase for you and you think you'll keep it indefinitely, then go ahead. It avoids the need for you to do research and learn about vintage watches. If you go to sell it in the future, you'll take a big hit.

I'd only use the CPO for vintage/discontinued Rolexes. Sure, it's a premium but you are getting a serviced and all original watch– If you must have that watch I don't think it's a bad idea.

I'm a bit confused. A Rolex CPO comes with its own box, guarantee, tags, and paperwork.

You would be WAY overpaying. It has a service dial and hefty price tag.

I don't think that CPO means all-original, but it will have authentic parts.

If you like the watch go for it. Don't expect anything close to what you are paying when you want to resell. I also hope all the spots on the dial are spotlights reflection off the crystal.

Yes CPO is 25-35% over mkt....you pays your money, you take....'
One little anomaly over the vintage market is that CPO have to protect their RSC 'upgrades'.....thus no, or little discount, for service part/dial watch ! We, here, would discount a service dial about 1/3 on a watches full value. THE CPO CAN'T though, as otherwise they are somewhat dissing their own service parts. Be careful as such not to make an overpayment closer to 50% on a service parts watch which you'll be buried in (financially upside-down) for frankly decades !!!

I would never in my right mind pay $17k for a service dial 5513. That’s even more than prices for nice matte maxi dials today. CPO program is a ripoff. Just my opinion.

As you say you are UK-based you should try the Old Watch Shop in Southport. The owner is one of the most respected Rolex Submariner collectors in the UK. He currently has a 5513 (1966) for sale with original dial priced at around £13k. The bracelet and bezel are replacements but it is a much better buy than the one you are currently looking at……and I would trust TOWS over Rolex when it comes to vintage watches. Good luck with your search.

As mentioned check out Mike @ The Old Watch Shop great place to buy from or check Miltons they have one that’s been looked at by Steven Hale. For me CPO gets you what you want at an inflated price

As the others have said; that's a huge premium for a white gold marker service dial watch but if you love it and can afford it and never intend to sell it on; buy what you love! At least you can be sure it is all genuine and presumably comes with a warranty!
