I’m not retired but I got my retirement watch!

Was out of town for an event and decided to randomly call the local AD and ask for a watch that I’ve been on the list for back at home.

I was put on hold for a few minutes and when the saleswoman came back she asked when I could pick it up.

I know this isn’t a terribly rare piece or anything but it’s the first time an AD committed a piece to me over the phone.

It was a great experience and I finally have my “old man” watch that reminds me of my grandfather.

Nice score, that’s a beauty. My retirement watch is a gold 36mm day-date aka the Tony Soprano. I would feel weird wearing a gold watch at this time in my life but once I’m retired it’s exactly what I want to wear everyday.

I might argue it's THE classic Rolex. In the 70's and 80's it was the watch of choice among professionals. My dentist, my doctor, and my dad's CPA all wore a TT champagne dial DJ on a jubilee.

Your post inspired me to pull out my pie pan 1601 DJ and wear it tomorrow.

This is THE quintessential Rolex... the most timeless, most recognized, most classic, and most emblematic of the entire brand. Period.

Congrats! Wear in good health for many years to come

This and the all gold DayDates were known to me as Texas Timex as a teen. Still a classic combo, congrats.

Congratulations. Reminds me of the olden days of Rolex; you buy one to celebrate an achievement (even if it hasn’t happened yet)! None of that “relationship” stuff. Enjoy it in the best of years.
