Should new Rolexes have dirt/dust on the dial?
Hi all
This Rolex is a few weeks old (OP, silver, 36"). Bought from an official Rolex retailer, as per the Rolex website. Although note this is a shady store which requires you buy a Tudor every time you buy a Rolex. I bought a loupe (Belomo, 10x) to look at it in detail and I've noticed two things: 1. There are specs of dirt/dust on the dial at 6 minutes and 13 minutes. Only visible with a loupe. 2. No matter what I do, I cannot see the crown etched into the crystal. I know (2) can be difficult to find, so not too worried about that, but should new Rolexes have specs of dirt/dust on the dial? Thanks |

Rolex only ships their watches with the highest quality dirt (Rolirt) and dust (Rolust).

Should new Rolexes have dirt/dust on the dial?

Of course watches should not have dirt or dust on the dial, but this depends on the size of contamination. Anyhow, it would be interesting to know Rolex specs (or acceptance criteria) for dust on dials because it is only a question of magnification when one will see small particles. |

Take it over to the RSC at Jardine House. They'll take a look at it there and then, and tell you if it's a warranty issue.

Rolex will always have visible flaws under 10x. Scratches on hands. Debris on dial and hands. I use 2-3x to look at mine.
10x flawless is VC, Patek, Lange etc territory. I'd learn to live with anything invisible to naked eye or 2x or sell it and buy a higher quality watch if you demand something closer to perfection. If you take it to RSC I bet you $100 it comes back worse.

Had a speck of dust on an AP dial visible without a loupe in bright sun. It happens.

Manufacturing tolerances are likely better than this, but as I understand it, service tolerance is that if I can't see it unmagnified at 10in away, it's acceptable. Hopefully most watchmakers have higher standards than that.

Most Rolexes I've had have had excellent QC, the one that had scratches on the hands and the other a wonky date window were selling very competitively by a used/grey, maybe that was why.
