Should I follow up with AD?
Hi all,
My birthday is coming up next week and I went to the AD with a referral about 3 weeks back looking for a black submariner for my birthday. He mentioned that he will be able to get one but not sure if it’s in time for my bday or not. After my visit I sent an email thanking him for his time. In his response back he mentioned that they of course did not have any available at that moment but said he looks forward to continuing the Rolex journey soon and ended the email saying the watch would make for a great bday gift. With my birthday coming up next week should I reach out or just simply wait. I don’t want to come off as too pushy but of course would love to get my first rolex for my bday. Thanks guys! |

They always tell you they will get one but don't know if it's gonna be in time. That's part of keeping the dream alive. Before you know it that watch will be discontinued or replaced with a new reference

Yes I would get in touch again but if you only approached them 3 weeks ago you kinda left it a little late. If you have to wait any length of time which plenty of people have then just go grey to avoid the hassle

Follow up. Just a friendly reminder of your upcoming birthday. After that, I'd leave it alone for a while.

Yes definitely reach out it doesn't cost anything to ask.
Don't go grey, you will pay over retail and miss out on the buying experience at a Rolex AD. |

Imo this ad sounds very sincere and you will get your sub in the near future. Stick with ad unless you absolutely need to have it on your exact birthday.
And if you are in to the hobby you want the ad experience and relationship with your ad. |

Man, what is it with everyone tippy-toeing around AD. They sell watches for god sake. Its Not plutonium. You are not doing anything that goes against societal rules. Just call him and tell him my birthday is around the corner, what's going on.

No harm in stopping by. All SAs are different but the ones I know prefer face to face.

I would go in and inquire about the watch face to face. You will get a feel for the situation and timing. If you think they are not going to come through then contact a few of our Trusted Sellers and go through them. Should not be much more then msrp and tax. Remember asking price and getting price are very different things. Also, call the Trusted Seller, don't just send an email. Good luck and go get your watch.

Of course you should follow up, what possible rational argument could there be against it. You want the watch, you have stated your reason, you have shared your timeline, you have expressed your enthusiasm and the fact that your occasion is approaching is the perfect opportunity to reach out, preferably in person. You are not the only person asking this AD/SA for a watch, yours isn’t the only special occasion that he has requests for to be acknowledged. How do you elevate your occasion in his memory? By communicating.

Sometimes I believe that some folks on this site are more in need of a course in building self confidence than they are in acquiring, trading or selling a watch.

Yes. Stop into the store and look at watches. That’s why they built the store and you enjoy looking at watches. They want people in the store.
I wouldn’t make it any more complicated than that. |

You could visit the day before your Birthday, and remind them of your request, just in case they have one in the safe.

If it’s only been three weeks since you were in and you also emailed him so I would not follow up this quick. I try not to be a pest though.
Also, the birthday/milestone leverage is kind of overused and largely ineffective. I’d personally not lean on that too hard. I would be internally eye-rolling if I was an SA and people tried playing the birthday card. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What?? You mean you don't go in weekly wearing your best Rolex swag and talking it up with the SAs like you have known them your whole life? Icing on the cake if you can really impress them with your knowledge of Rolex watches and company history.
Don't you know that ADs love this and definitely don't make fun of you when you leave.. |

You could take all your friends to send your birthday gifts to ‘your’ AD to help with your relationship

Ask politely, for sure, but expect a hard no.
Not sure if you have any prior relationship, but three weeks for first ask to receipt of this piece would be extremely unusual. I waited two years for the sub date my AD was finally able to come through for me on last fall... |
