Bottle of Wine suggestion ~$2,000 bottle
Hello wine people, I want to buy a friend a single bottle of nice red as a thank-you. He is a label snob. What does the brain trust recommend for a huge red in the $2,000 range? I’m thinking California or French, unless someone has another suggestion?
Thanks in advance

Tbh just save approx. 1'800 bucks and go with a bottle of Tignanello or buy 15 of them :-)

To my brain, it sounds silly to spend $2000 on a bottle of something disposable for a friend. But I get that expensive wine is what some people love

One of my favorite wines. I found a 2000 chateau haut-brion.

If you wanted something that would be a bit interesting to a Wine Snob and would deliver the goods in terms of quality as well, you could search your local Wine Retailers for some Penfolds Grange Hermitage. This is the premium Australian red wine and cellars well for many decades. Quality-wise it can match the best in the world and you would be able to pick up a bottle with 30 years on it for around US$1000. Buy two, because after the first, he is going to want more. I have experience with cellaring this wine and it won't disappoint.

If you're intent on spending that much money, why not a little more and buy in bulk, Costco style? A case of six (6) bottles of Opus One for $2400, but act now, and we'll throw in 5% off for your first order!

A 3 bottle crate of penfold grange hermitage is on the short list. However, I believe it’s 2019 (do you have any experience with newer vintages?). Thank you for the suggestion.

Chateau Lafite. He’ll either love it or hate it with a passion.

At this price point I’m guessing he is a collector and id venture a 6 vertical of young Opus One or 3 of young Mouton would be memorable. If you do single bottle, are you open to large format?

Yeah, a nice Jereboam, or perhaps a Methuselah, or even a Nebuchadnezzar! Then he could make a nice lamp with the empty

Can never go wrong with Château Latour Pauillac, I prefer the 2003 vintage.

I love Scarecrow, Shafer, and Opus- they should be 850, 550, and 750. GRW and Cult wines are great to deal with. Just received my 2021 Scarecrow- crazy that it is 600/ bottle cost straight from them at allocation- ugh but I love my scarecrow :-)

never even heard of any of these.
I thought Caymus and Silver Oak were expensive. So glad I have not gone down this rabbit hole. And while I find it super intriguing, I am just going to see myself out of this one. Good luck OP. I hope he opens it with you and you get to try it.

I cannot contribute to this thread, but it is very entertaining. Maybe a box of Franzia, wrapped nicely, then after he opens it & realizes it's a joke, produce the "real" gift from behind your back. Maybe Olde English?
