(1) The holy trinity ... one has to go

a purely hypothetical question but if 1 of the 3 brands from this group had to, which would you choose.

Pretty easy for me I’m not a fan of the RO and especially the offshore so that doesn’t leave much for me with AP. Swap in Breguet for them :D

This has been a conversation amongst collectors for years. It's almost universally opined that AP has lost their way, and is undeserving of their claim as one of the holy trinity.

I really enjoy my white RO. That said, I really don’t see AP on the podium.

Quite a majority for kicking out AP.

Watch this video that Tim Mosso just released and tell me again on which objective criteria you'd really exclude AP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMXvyhLqfaM, except for its over-reliance on the RO.

I don't really blame AP for losing their as mentioned earlier.
I blame the buyers for overlooking any of their watches that don't start with the word Royal.
There is just incredible deals out there now for discontinued AP models.
How about a gold chronograph with enamel dial for $25K? A perpetual calendar for $33k?
A tourbillion for $45k?
Not very many takers for these incredible watches that are what, 1/3 or 1/4 the price of a Patek for very similar quality.

Here is one that I think is better than any similar watch the Patek made for almost half the price.

A tourbillon with a moss agate main plate and hand engraved gold bridges and hour makers for $86k. Original price $346k.

Compare that to Pateks cheapest tourbillon for $165k with a painted metal dial. Wouldn't even have to think about that one.

It seems to me that the world has moved on past the silly notion of trinity and respective brands. The true it brands are known and need no introduction: FPJ, Dufour, Smith, Voutalainen and so on. The demand for traditional watches is off the charts and most people can’t get one. Even Patek’s most classic watches can be had below retail. Trinity now competes with Rolex on the strength of sports models.

Time keeping. Not enough horology in AP’s haute horology. If you can’t make an accurate movement, then who cares how much lipstick it’s wearing.

A new poll saying all three have to go might be better suited for modern times.

PS: We all know the 1960s Holy Trinity marketing campaign efforts is long outdated. :)

AP. They are great but holy trinity to me conjures up classically designed complicated watches and VC and Patek do that far better.

AP. No doubt about its great history, but the current offering embarrassingly narrowed to 2 watch lines is really not comparable to the product breadt of VC and PP.

AP for sure.

RO is great watch but impossible to get for the first time buyer.
11.59 and the other watch doesn't look great at all.

AP for sure. All that Marvel stuff and partnerships with celebrities really kills the brand for me. If I am gonna splurge $$$ on something to wear on my wrist, it needs to be MY watch, not Travis Scott's watch, or John Mayer's watch, or Jay-Z's watch.

For sure AP has to go. Patek was and remains number 1. Just look at the catalogue and the efforts being currently made to modernize the collection while staying true to their roots. Amazing effort.

Well if you read the responses here, it’s AP out and either Breguet or Lange in. I can certainly get behind that.

I am only a beginner collector but when AP collaborated with Travis Scott I lost all respect for the brand. A thug disguised as a rapper who actively encourages his fans (many still kids) to act out violence in his concerts that resulted in number of deaths. His song’s lyrics are also some of the most disgusting.

I honestly not sure what AP is thinking to collab with someone like that, all his fans are kids and young guys who couldn’t afford nor care about 30k+ mechanical watches, while alienating their existing core customers.

Can you imagine if Breguet or Patek collaborated with someone like that, looks very desperate.

Yes, I forgot that black panther watch. I didn't know you can get an AP from McDonald's. I also didn't know Travis Scott collab with AP. Disgusting. Indeed.
