Icon20 Looking for recommendation for service in the San Diego area where there may be some

Unfortunately, I am in need of a service recommendation in the
San Diego area. I feel that I will need some extensive work
because of a poor service job (in my opinion) by a jewler in San Diego recently.

I will need a new crystal (I was told that I cracked the other one
without my knowledge) two weeks after the last service
(that cost $850). I will need a new dial and maybe a new date
wheel for my DJ.

For these reasons, I would like to see if I can negotiate price
on some of the parts needed. This is my thinking in not using
the RSC (probable non-flebible on pricing of parts?).

I feel some negotiation may be indicated, as I (unfortunately)
work forthe State of California) and the Govenor has (to date)
cut our salaries by 15% inorder to pay for the State's deficit.
He (the Govenor) may work himself toward the 100% salary cut.
Howver, the really good news here is that I still have a job!

Another thought I had might be to trade up to a DD, being up front
with the dealer the work my watch may need. But this is probably not
feasible (too expensive). But it would be much cheaper for a watch
dealer to do the work than it would be for me???

Thanks in advance for your time (it took just to read this) and your thoughts recommendations, etc!

John.

Maybe you are right! I did learn to ask if the watch was pressure tested, if nothing else.

Either he missed a pre-existing crack in the sapphire crystal, OR I cracked it answering the phone one of the two days I wore it at my desk in the hospital??.

" Nice ! "
As in "nice goin Larry" why dont you just pull out his incisor too and take a thumb nail for measure - sheeze !

Seriously though, parts is a big "no way you going to get a break on pricing".
You may get to haggle labor, but, these guys or gals (watchmakers) pretty much got you by the nargas when it comes to servicing an auto ROLEX. (maybe even a quartz one too).
Try Walter Gooden in Los Angeles or my guy on Lido Isle in Newport Beach, Blackman Jewelers; the old man is great and turn arounds are snappy, but do yourself a favor and dont bring up discounts on parts, these guys aren't starving state workers !

Thanks,
Randy

PS.. I am in San Diego too, you can try, though I have not, Leo Hamel, I heard they have a ROLEX tech...
