Cross threading the crown?
I am not sure if that has been asked before but I suspect it may have. My search didnt come up with anything. I was just curious if cross threading the crown is a very real thing or impossible because the crown stem only lets it close correctly?
I always have an irrational fear that this is going to be the day that I cross thread my crown. |

It can happen for sure! Unlikely if you aren’t “ham-fisted” with it and go slow.

Cross threading the crown?
The older the stem's o-rings get, the more flex the crown will exert in a hasty moment of re-seating its threads onto the tube.
Winding and setting has a Mahayana movement of Zen for me. To connect with the metaphysical mysticism of the watch's movement. Like Danny's habit of reverse rotation, each step has its own unique characteristic in the discipline of adjusting the power of accurate timekeeping or adjusting for its errata. Well in well over 50 years of owning and wearing Rolex watches some manual wind that got wound up daily never cross threaded my winding crown. But today many crown related problems are down to the winding crown not used enough. With many today afraid to wind there watches encase they wear out the threads and crown.

I always make sure the crown is threading properly before I apply any force.
