First Panerai
Hi gang, I went down the rabbit hole of looking at a Panerai as my next watch. I narrowed this down to a base entry level 1086.
Anything I should know before pulling the trigger? Thank you!

If you’re buying grey or used be careful of counterfeits

If you can swing it I’d step up to the 914. It’s simply a better piece of kit that I believe you won’t regret.

Thank you! Unfortunately the 1086 is at the very top of my budget.

Definitely try it on first, even better try on a bunch if you can. 44mm isn’t always 44mm with Panerai, some wear completely different. Also some of the 47mm will surprise you how well they wear!

Nice base logo. You have to decide if you are okay with the pressed on (instead of screw down) case back and related 100 meter water resistance (instead of 300 meters).
Personally, I’d rather a pre-owned 000 for the above reason, but if you prefer new and are fine with the above, then go for it and enjoy. ![]() |

Reconsider a mildly used 914 if you can, it's an awesome watch with 10 days PR not 8 as stated on the dial. And a unique experience of winding it for 2-3 minutes. ;)
I have it, first and last PAM at the moment but loving it. |

If it didn't have the faux aged lume I would agree 100 percent. I would go 1086, i love the pre-vendome dial layout.

Great watch and very accurate and roboust caliber. 92PR. Bayonnet case back. Do not worry about wr, it is tested for 125% which is enough.
Suunto dive computer is ISO 6425 and has bayonet case for battery. Nevertheless, i would apprechiate more chubby indices. |

Go for it. I’ve found that the company and the boutiques are overly friendly and really appreciate the business. The last time I was in Vegas I wore my 915 one night and was treated very well by the Panerai people, the following evening I wore my submariner and tried to go into the Rolex store and they wouldn’t even talk to me. So it settles what my next purchase will be

The 1086 is very beautiful. Old Panerai character, an excellent choice ![]() |
