Hi,

I inherited a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date from my dad 3 years ago. It was never service since my aunt gave it to my dad more than a decade ago. Along with my dad's deteriorating health his Rolex has also started to be inaccurate. My mom said they're about to send it to a local service center in the Philippines but never had time since she tends to my dad's need.

My mom gave the watch to me after my dad's burial and said that my dad was complaining about his Rolex for being inaccurate and sometimes it stopped working. Initially it worked fine with me for the first few weeks. Then it barely work with only the second hand that's functioning. When I tried shaking it the minute hand moved, not because its working but it moved along the shaking.

Two years ago when my wife and I were still in West Virginia. I inquired about the servicing and quoted that it may cost me $500-800 which was too steep for us. I just told myself once everything's stable, I will send it to RSC. I'm now living in Hollister, CA just an hr away from San Jose.

Is there a RSC close to my place where I can send off my watch? Physically the watch is in good condition and the major problem is it's not working. How much would be the cost to bring back my rolex to life? I was backreading most of the post and it was suggested to wind the watch. I don't know if I tried it correctly but I did unscrew first the crown and on its first stop I tried winding it clockwise but it seems stuck and only way to wind it is counter-clockwise.

Welcome to the Forum..

Sounds like a broken mainspring...

You are in luck... There is an authorized Rolex Service Center just up the road in San Fran on Post road...

The cost to service a Rolex is still around 600 bucks, but the watch will be brought back to like new condition..

Like what Larry said, there's an RSC in SFO!

There are lots of independent watchmakers around our area, but for a watch of sentimental significance I would only trust the RSC.

Thanks for the quick reply. I read the excellent reviews of the SFO RSC from yelp. And your recommendations have affirmed what they said.

My only problem is that their only open from monday to friday. I'll call them up if its possible to have it shipped.

I finally sent my watch for its overdued servicing @ RSC SFO, as everyone suggested... It looks new and seemed to have a mix of brushed and polished accents. The top part of the steel is brushed while its sides are polished. The rest of the gold links are polished. I can't remember if the main spring is included on what they fixed but they replaced the crown because it's too worn-out.

I checked recently a local Rolex forum in the Philippines... Their RSC just charge around P13,000 including the usual replaceable parts. P13,000 is about $295... just a fraction for what I paid for hehehe There's a slight buyer's remorse because I'm planning to get a German B-uhr watch with the same amount I paid for the service. Anyway, I'm still happy that I have my watch back in excellent condition and knowing how much I love my dad, I won't scrimp for him :)

Sounds like a great ending..

The US cannot compete with Phillipine labor costs, but you can be sure that your Rolex has been brought back to like-new condition for the price... Mainsprings are almost always included in the service........

That sounds like a great deal!

I guess if you factor in the price of airline tickets, SFO doesn't sound too bad.

You will love your Rolex when you get it back from RSC San Francisco...they do excellent work.
Because it has sentimental value...it'll be twice as valuable & you will quickly forget the money. You can't put a price on family memories.
Whenever I wear my fater's Rolex I am always happy.

Yes the mainsprings are included on the service list. I was looking on my notes earlier.

I was there twice since December. I even bought my wife her first Rolex, thinking it's cheaper but when I checked with swissluxury.com... anyway that'll be a different story

Dr. Robert,

They did an excellent job and it looks new. The crown has the same tightness and feel with my wife's new DJ.
