Pat's Steaks in Philly

Anyone else notice that the staff is wearing a few Rolex's? The main guy at the register is wearing a sea-dweller, and I think the guy making the sandwiches is wearing a sub, but they were moving so fast I couldn't confirm this.

Pat's over Geno's... any day of the week.

Damn, wearing rolexes while preparing food. I know that company is bankrolling $. I could see the owner or head counter guy with one, but even the workers in the back, huh.

Agreed. Cash only, nice even prices... "Cheeseteak? $9. Pop? $1.50." I'd like to see the books, and then the real books.

I'll fed ex a few right away. It will give the drug sniffing dogs something to go nuts about at the fed ex center.

I was so disappointed with the American food.

HotDogs in NYC suck, Cheesesteak in Philly is gross, Primanti's in Pittsburgh still gives me heartburn thinking about it, only the Clam Chowder in Boston was worth it!

You guys need to work on your stereotypical dishes.

You need to try the Pizza in New York and Chicago.....then you'll know why most of the US is overweight!

Glad you didn't tell anyone at Pat's that their Cheese Steaks were gross. Most Philadelphians would not take that well. But hey we probably don't appreciate bacon and maple syrup either.

Hot Dogs in New York? Wrong place my friend. Chicago holds the hod dog title, and while you're in Chicago, grab an Italian Beef, or a Beef and Cheddar croissant from Portillo's.

You definately have your places wrong pal. For example, NYC is good for best pizza and bagels - not hotdogs

In the movies all you ever see are New York hotdog stands.

For what it's worth, Chicago dogs weren't much better.

I liked New York pizza, though the delivery boy kept calling me Papi

Oh puh-leeze! Gimme a freakin' break here. Subjective experience expressed as truth. I for one love dirty water dogs, on occasion. Did you even get hickory-smoked ribs anywhere? Chopped brisket in Texas? Did you try a Sam Adams, if you imbibe? "You guys need to work on your stereotypical dishes." ... sez you. Next time you're in NY, let me know. I'll show some ya some good food, starting with Peter Luger's on yer dime.

Even though I don't like traveling, one of the best things about traveling to me is trying the local foods, occasionally I'll spend some time in Pittsburgh seeing clients and relatives and I'm thrown back that Primanti's sandwiches are bigger. I normally have to eat two or three of them at a sitting.

Was it Pats or Genos that was on Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay?

I lived in NYC for about 6 months in the Time Warner Center, and was really having a HARD time finding good food in the city.

Either I have terrible luck or its lacking. Actually one of my favorites was some hole in the wall inside Grand Central, and Juniors Cheesecake.

If you couldn't find palatable food in NYC, I'd bet my retirement you DO have terrible luck. Dang, I'm getting rabidly defensive about the city...civic pride will do that to ya, especially concerning food. Maybe we should talk about Rolexes instead Hole-in-the-wall joints rule, that's for sure.

Think it was Pat's, though they spent some time over at Geno's, too. Geno's is the flashy place with the neon, no?

The Food Network Throwdown with Bobby Flay was Tony Lukes, A newer steak place if you consider 10 years newer.
Funny thing looking at Walds post. In Philly, your either a Pat's person or a Geno's person. Period. The rational of cheese steaks in Philly is almost like fighting words when it comes to Pat's or Geno's. I kid you not.
Personally,
1. Pat's
2. Jim's (West Philly shop)

Dude, this is silly. New York has the some of the best restaurant's in the world. If you had a steak at Lugers or Keenes; pastrami at Carnegie or Katz's; a hot dog at Papaya King; pizza at Lombardis; Chinese food anywhere in Chinatown; or Italian food on Arthur Avenue, you'd know what I mean?

Luger's, one of the few places you look forward to spending $100+ for a bloody piece of undercooked meat. I may skip another Pat's cheesesteak next week, and drive up for a non-cheesed real steak.

I rather pay $100 for a good steak than $5 for a crappy hot dog.
