Is a bird in hand better than two in the bush?
Wondering what everyone thinks on this…
If you had the option of a 5168G in 4 months, versus a much longer (but preferable) 5968A but in 24 months… which would you take? In my mind the 5968A is the preference but a lot can happen in 24 months (discontinued, 18 months to enjoy the 5168G instead of waiting for the other piece, wait time becomes longer since supply of these is unpredictable and in few numbers etc. Is the much longer wait worth the risks… 🤔 Thanks! |

Bird in the hand s always good .. something better than nothing .. that’s how I feel, it’s your choice alone but for me so much could happen in the meantime ..

24 months is not that long. If you want the 5968A then I’d wait for it.
Unless you’re 80 and about to die. Then go for the 5168. Personally I don’t like time/date only aquanauts. |

Among your options I'd rather wait 2 years for 5968A as I don't care for 5168G (too big and flat, and WG isn't ideal for a basic do-it-all sports watch). Also waited almost 3 years for a 5711 no problem. That said, AD got axed before 5968A arrived for me. A PM 5968 might be a lot faster than 5968A.

In this case, since neither watch is “in the hand” I’d just pick the watch you love the most. That being said, if the expected wait is truly about two years, do you expect the AD to survive the next 1-2 rounds of cuts. I’m glad I at least got some before Patek cut the cord with my AD.

I had deposit on 5990 and 6 months wait, offered 5980 two tone on the spot but said I will wait for the 5990, and guess what, AD lost Patek 2 month from delivery, so yes, a bird in had for sure!!!

It's an uncertain world we live in and the 5168G is a beautiful watch.

I promise you the 5968A will not be around 24 months...

Like many here, after decades I lost my Patek AD. If you like the 5168g get it now.

Thanks all for the responses… agree to buy what I like most (5968A) but with the risk of the AD losing their status (there’s no way to know tbh) the 5168G is a watch I like a lot and certainly not a compromise!

Unless you're a whale, I'd say patek ADs and their SAs are the most untrustworthy people in the world. Take the 5168G and run, maybe see if you can get a 5164G, but I heard too many people getting screwed by patek ADs especially when it's coming to 5968A
