5513 seconds hand jumps when setting time anti clockwise

Hi guys, just noticed the above and would like to seek your advice. The seconds hand jumps backwards a few seconds if I turn the crown anti clockwise to set the time, and jump forward to original position once I stop turning.
>> Is this normal?

The seconds hand doesn’t move when I turn and set the time clockwise though.

Watch is a 5513 from the early 1980s with 1520 movement.

Thanks!

Very normal. The gear train is being driven slightly backwards due to the tension on the cannon pinion, then transferred to the centre wheel, and then to the rest of the train including the sweep seconds pinion. Ideally, at full wind, there shouldn't be enough friction on the cannon pinion to do this. Nothing to be concerned about however.

Thank you! Glad to know that it’s normal.

I only wound the watch by turning the crown around 20 times before setting the time, when the observing the above.

Think I will just try to set the time in clockwise direction going forward

Due to year of production for your Submariner 5513, it has a hacking movement which means the seconds hand will not move and remain stationary once the crown is unscrewed to set the time.

Thanks, this is understood… Therefore I was surprised when the seconds hand moved back & forth when I tried to set the time anti clockwise, until the explanation offered earlier.

All the 15xx calibers I have had over the years have done the same to a smaller og greater extent.

Dont know if it is necessary, or just me being overly cautious, but I try to only set my watches clockwise :)
