I am jumping off this crazy roundabout
…for now.
Recently I decided to massively reduce my collection and get off this crazy roundabout of buying new watches and then seeking the next one and the next one. It was time to cut right back, simplify and just live with a few core pieces and be satisfied. So I have sold everything except my 36mm Explorer, my 1861 Hesalite Speedie and I picked up this 14060M yesterday. I still have some G Shocks, a couple of Seikos, my Kith Heuer and a Tissot PRX, but that is it and it feels refreshing and liberating Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Cant fault you. Ive been scaling back over the last year or so too. Just left with my Seiko Willard and Omega Conny now. I want to pick up an Explorer 40 and a Speedy or Seamaster 300 and then i think im done.
Learnt over the last few year that while i have the capital to buy what i want, just buying ‘stuff’ for the sake of it has no meaning and i soon get bored of it. The only watches that have stayed in my collection are those that have some actual meaning and a life event/achievement attached to them Sounds silly but i cant just buy a nice watch because i think it looks pretty or has some horological value these days. |

Which Kith Heuer did you get?
I was tempted, but ultimately resisted after I spent way too much on sneakers the month before. |

And you kept 3 classics of the entire watch world.
Well done! |

Yea….no. Still buying classic and vintage subs here and there, and just ordered the new Ming diver. Maybe I’ll grow up someday, but not today.

You still have a brilliant collection which is more than any same person would ever need, so you're not entirely cured, but it sounds like you are a lot better. In the medium term the prognosis will depend on what you can't resist buying next.

I did the same and kept 2 watches my original Sub date from 1985 and a new Rootbeer GMT. IMHO, you dont really get to know and appreciate a watch unless your wear it often (I wear my watches everyday). When I had a 5 watch rotation, I spent more time deciding which one to wear, instead of enjoying the watch. I went about 25 years with one Rolex, and its nice to be back to the basics....

I think I just realised that it was madness buying a watch and then looking for the next thing to add to my “collection”.
One thing I have learned as I have got older is that happiness comes from being satisfied with what you have and that acquiring new stuff only brings fleeting happiness Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wait…you’re not going to be buying anymore watches but you just bought a watch? We hear this all the time on TRF after a new purchase.
That declaration doesn’t count as you need at least one year (or more) with your current collection and not have purchased any watches to know if you truly are satisfied your collection is done and works for you.

Got my BLNR, I’m satisfied! I don’t want to declare I’m done but when I bought this last Rolex last month, my wife demanded a letter stating I am not buying more and she wants it notarized…. I told her I would but true to man code, I’m not in a big hurry to do this

Three excellent watches.
That's the problem with a hobby that involves collecting items. We are always searching, hunting, and awaiting the next new exciting object. Eventually the accumulation of all of those objects borders on hoarding. This hobby for me involves keeping the numbers reasonable by thinning the herd. One in, one out...most of the time. |

You are almost there, just 2 more steps. First, sell all Seikos, Heuer and PRX, leave one G-shock. Then sell one from the pair Sub/Explorer as they are too similar in purpose. End up with 1861 Speedy, Sub OR Ex and G-shock. It's perfect for all occasions and diverse enough.

Congrats! Beautiful Sub and perfect collection. I believe you definitely get more enjoyment out of a few main watches that you really enjoy
