online lotto - are they just another scam?

At dinner tonight with the old folks between having to scream to be heard and the other half forgets what we are talking about we tried to discuss buying lotto tickets online. I spoke against it saying I've read lots are scams and do you homework....of course most of these old folks need help just logging on. The one in question was "lotto.com" based in N.J. to which I told him "Tony Soprano may own it"......I get a confused look......guys it was a TV show ....get it.
More confused looks....I told all eight others at the table to be careful who you send your money to. If I want to buy a Powerball do so at the HEB not online.
It became a big topic when a elderly lady lost 40k over 3 months .... so they had a class one week on it (online scams). Companies or people that scam old folks out of millions .....I hope there is a special place in hell for them along with child abuse and animal abuse.

Billions of dollars a year are lost by the elderly to online and cell phone call scams. It’s crazy. I consider myself pretty savvy, and even I’ve lost hundreds by ordering things from scam websites. Sent the money and got nothing in return. They looked so legit, too. Twice I fell for scams. One was an E bike. The other was a really cool outdoor metal pinwheel type ornament. Lost a lot on the e bikes and maybe $100.00 on the others. I’m an intelligent woman with all my marbles, or so I thought.

better off taking out a loan, sell your house, and car, and any valuables, and go to Vegas - and punt it all on RED ...

I knew this crazy kid (lab tech), well to me anyway who wanted a new Nissan Pathfinder 4 wd.....for the snow....but did not want to finance for 5 years....so he borrowed 25k against his 401k , flew to Vegas and went for hero or zero at a high end roulette table....betting all 25k on black and won. The next week he was driving a new black Pathfinder. I'm guessing it was 98 or 99 before 9-11 and nissan still made pretty good cars back in those days.

online lotto - are they just another scam?

Each State that runs a legit lottery has their own online policy and supports sales online if allowed. But that requires downloading individual State Apps that use geo-fencing - thus no interstate sales.

The lotto.com company began a few years back by partnering with the NJ-based QuickChek convenience store brand. Digital tickets are their product.

Then they branched out into unique partnerships between their dot.com company and different State's lottery store sellers.

Technically, lotto.com is a registered courier of each State's Lottery to increase ticket sales. It is legit now in:

The larger question of playing the various games is a different thing.

If you get an email offer for any other States games be careful! It'd be a scam.

Well whoever stole my credit card information thought buying $300 worth of Michigan Lottery tickets online this morning was a good idea

Had to call and cancel and get new cards re-issued….sometimes I really hate people.
