13 Hour Layover in Hong Kong airport

What better way to kill the time?

Great selection of boutiques here. I didn’t capture all of them. Some surprises were the Piaget Polo Field with emerald green dial and Breitling B25. The IWC Ingenieur was great too. Bummed to hear the Omega store closed. I was here 2 months ago and it was a nice shop.

At least you're finding ways to make the most of that time. Lots to look at there it seems!

Thanks ya’ll.

Yes in retrospect I should have left the airport and ventured into the city.

Hong Kong is beautiful.

Hong Kong is a great place to visit for watches and 13 hours can go in the blink of an eye. Loving the photos of the watches you posted

It happens; we got stuck at JFK for like 10 hours on false JetBlue promises…sometimes it doesn’t feel worth leaving and having to go through the security stuff all over again. Glad you got to check out some cool pieces!

Agreed - and I wasn’t sure if I needed a visa to venture out. Not sure. And didn’t want to go through all the hassle of immigration.
Overall wasn’t too painful.

You were flying with Cathay? They do keep your bags from like 24 hours in advance if you want, HK Chek Lap Kok is their home base.
I did that when I came back from mainland China into HK, but also had 10 hours to kill so I put my carry on in a locker and the checked in luggage. Security was pretty fast there anyway so I had enough time to go back into the city.

That’s good to know. Thanks for the tip.
I’d love to explore Hong Kong a little. Next time!

I hear the vintage watch shops are excellent.

On a different note, I’m in China now (Jinjiang) and the watches lurking around my hotel are insane.
Saw a rainbow Daytona today. Countless ss models. Day-Dates, and many unique watches, which is great to see in the wild.

Maybe the demand has slightly cooled here but the density of great pieces out in the wild is still full throttle.

I don't doubt it. Jinjiang has one of the highest GDP in Fujian and is in the top 10 of richest cities in the whole country.
Enjoy the trip !

With thirteen hours, you should definitely have gone into the city! Airport Express will take you to Central in 30 minutes, then TST and all the watch greys are a five minute MTR ride (or better, a fifteen minute Star Ferry) across Victoria . There is literally no city in the world better for a long-ish layover. That amazing food, the legendary views, the harbour, the bustle - it's all there for you on a plate.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting. That's amazing that all those boutiques are located in that one airport.

Star ferry is indeed the way to go, 5HKD (0,50€) single way and you get amazing views of the city.

You’re right - such a great city.

Well, next time I have a long layover I know what to do.

I’ve been scoping some of the dealers in HK on Chrono24 and they have so many great pieces.

The culture, food, friendly people … HK is great.

Back in 2015 I spent some time in AMS, and that's exactly what I did!
