Attention Rolex & Authorized Dealers-ALLOCATION PRACTICES IN CHALLENGING MARKET
Dear Rolex & AD’s
Sometime around 2019 & 2020 when the market saw an uptick and secondary market pricing went up, you both saw an opportunity to leverage pieces going above retail to push more product and slow moving product. Then in the middle of Covid when the market EXPLODED you took these methods a step further by hiding ALL STOCK IN THE BACK SAFE and lying to the certain customers about inventory or ability to get pieces. Let’s start with facts and objective truths and in fairness I will add challenges you face. 1.) All AD’s get stock REGULARLY and they always have. They get more stock today than EVER before, but keep it hidden in the back and they lie to certain customers about inventory or dance around the questions of inventory or availability. Some AD’s are also guided by Rolex of “when” and “how” to reveal stock to customers. Its very well planned and strategic, and it ALL ABOUT MAXIMIZING REVENUE AND MARGINS FOR THE AD AND ROLEX. 2.) The most fundamental and TOP PRIORITY for Rolex is to make sure every single piece they produce each year gets SOLD and without discounting ANY PIECE is the goal. This achieves financial targets and brand value/retention without discount. 3.) Rolex strategizes these goals with AD’s and the AD MUST follow protocol if they want to remain an AD. But the AD also has interest in MAXIMIZING revenue for the store and leveraging the “hot hyped models such as steel Daytona, Steel GMT, limited rare pieces etc” to also “PUSH SLOWER PRODUCT AND MAXIMIZE REVENUES FOR THEIR OWN STORE AND IMPRESS ROLEX BY MOVING ALL PIECES QUICKLY WITHOUT DISCOUNT SO MORE PRODUCT COMES IN AND THEY REFLECT A LOYAL, RICH, LONG TERM CLIENT BASE IS BEING BUILT. 4.) Rolex AD’s know FOR A FACT THEY WILL NEVER SELL CERTAIN PIECES TO CERTAIN CUSTOMERS, BUT THIS IS HIGHLY SENSITIVE AND ROLEX IS ADAMANT ABOUT THIS NEVER EVER BEING COMMUNICATED TO CUSTOMERS. THEY EVEN TRAIN AD’s AND SALES ASSOCIATES ON CLEVER WAYS OF MESSAGING AND NEVER EVER COMMUNICATING THEY CANNOT SELL YOU A PIECE. THERE ARE LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS AND BAD PRESS RAMIFICATIONS IF THIS TRUTH WAS EVER COMMUNICATED BY THE AD SO ROLEX MAKES THIS “COMMUNICATION METHOD” A PRIORITY TO ALL AD’s. 5.) Rolex and AD’s do have “supply/demand challenges” but they LEVERAGE the situation to MAXIMIZE REVENUES AND PROFITS AND BRAND VALUE/IMAGE, PERIOD. 6.) Flippers are a problem for Rolex and AD’s but ONLY A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON THAT EQUITY/REVENUE AND THE FLIPPER IS GAINING OFF THE BACKS OF ROLEX HYPE, SUPPLY/DEMAND ETC…the flipper is leaving money on the table for BOTH Rolex and the AD, that is the ONLY and most fundamental reason why it’s a problem. To curb this and tap into that market and gain more of that revenue they started the Rolex CPO program. We will see how that goes, but always remembers just FOLLOW THE MONEY/MARGINS AND ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY FIRST. That’s just fundamental business practices for the AD and Rolex so I totally understand it and I even respect it. 7.) The care for true “blue collar collectors” as I like to call them is LAST on the priority list for both Rolex and AD’s. It’s ALWAYS ABOUT MAXIMUM REVENUE AND MARGINS FIRST. Having said that “certain collectors” can and are prioritized “IF” they make a significant contribution to the brand and the AD’s revenue and profit margins long term. For example a celebrity or athlete with 20 million instagram followers who will post the stainless Daytona they walked in and got as a first time customer, that is a long term strategic revenue/marketing play for Rolex and even some AD’s so that’s why it happens. It’s all business and revenue so don’t take any of this personal if you have never been allocated a piece you desire. CURENT STATE OF THE MARKET, FORECASTING AHEAD, AND BE CAREFUL WHO YOU PISS OFF. We are in a downward trend relative to hype, equity, secondary market pricing and SUPPLY IS UP. So my message to Rolex and their AD’s is be VERY CAREFUL who you piss off as far as customers go. That “blue collar collector” is the one who you DO NOT want to piss off or alienate. I am one of those, for example I started a relationship with an AD in So Cal and I purchased 3 slower moving pieces, spent about 100k with this AD (20k in the hole due to secondary market drops) and I’ve always desired a white stainless panda. I messaged that from the beginning but also bought other pieces I truly enjoy. To this day after 3 years I still get the run around because of the 7 points mentioned above. It does not mean I won’t get it. I’m still patiently waiting and my gut tells me you will deliver “eventually” and I know exactly how many you get each month. But BE CAREFUL not to alienate me or piss me off. Because there are HUNDREDS like me in the country. And it’s US who are truly passionate about the brand when we promote your brand and AD in our everyday lives and interactions. And as economic uncertainty continues, hype dies down, supply increases, market prices continue to trend downward, it is the TRUE watch collector like me that is going to be loyal to you in all hype, non hype, economic climates. That BLUE COLLAR COLLECTOR is who you will rely on for revenue and profits in tougher times. So my main message to you is DONT ALIENATE ME and come through, you will need us and we are deeply passionate about the brand and the AD location. I know both Rolex and AD’s read this regularly. Some are even moderators so I hope I have not been too candid. But I speak from the heart and in truth so had to get this off my chest. Don’t cancel or block this post, it’s not troll intended. It’s just a message from a sincere collector. And feel free to DM me if you are an AD or Rolex staff. I’m in Southern California and I patiently await the “text or call”. Regards |

this is truly an absurd post. if you hate ADs so much why give them 100k on pieces you dont even like that much? just buy the panda in the secondary market.

THIS is why they enjoy an AD-based sales model - they shirk the customer relationship responsibilities, avoid the burden of retail-related operating expenses, all while letting the market work for them by driving demand and enjoying the profits.
And to season to taste, why not buy out one of your major ADs and offer a used sales program where they then sell their own watches used for more than what they retail for. Meanwhile, you still have folks with their hands out after paying the piper yelling "NeVer gO gReY!" |

So what is going to happen if Rolex continues to "alienate" YOU ? Are you going to report them to the regulators for "discrimination"? Or are you going to employ lawyers to sue Rolex and the AD for "alienating" you? Perhaps you are going to adopt the "Just Stop Oil" movement and spray green paint all over their factory gates or the AD entrance? I am so impressed by OP's post! The confidence is mind blowing! |

Seems like typical comments from those who are not getting all they want when they want. People ask here often should they buy watches from ADs they do not want, just to be on good terms with an AD. It is a crazy market and hopefully, the supply/demand ratio will continue to equalize and folks who want to actually wear watches can get them soon.

Greatly appreciate all feedback.
Some misunderstandings or misinformation to clarify in my post. 1.) the term “Blue Collar collector” is figurative NOT literal. Rolex and the AD’s will know exactly what I’m talking about. 2.) This is not just about me, it’s about the HUNDREDS like me that exist. I even mention that do read carefully before being triggered or trolling. 3.) This is a sincere attempt at messaging how I and some feel, nothing more. 4.) The internet and forums will ALWAYS be savage and certain folks get triggered or troll, I get it and all good. I welcome all feedback and perspectives, it makes us all better. :) 5.) I enjoy every piece I bought. I still enjoy them a lot, I would NOT have purchased if I didn’t. But I’m being transparent about many things we all look at and what I requested with sincere intent from the beginning. 6.) I realize You will never be able please all people, you will trigger some people, the internet is SAVAGE and I am just as guilty falling in all this. So I welcome all feed back, good, bad or troll. 7.) I truly wish you ALL an awesome Rolex journey too. And I hope you all get to further build the way I want too. Blessings to all :) |

Can you expand on number 4? I’m intrigued especially since you used all caps too. Are you talking about the off catalog pieces or the main hype pieces like a Pepsi and Daytona?

My SA has told me that it seems the majority of people who enter his store seem to be unhappy. I sincerely hope you don't let the purchase, or lack of purchase, of one watch have any bearing on your happiness.
