126509 vs 126519LN
Hi,
I am planning to add my first Daytona to the collection. As I am not planning to go to the secondary market I checked with my AD how obtainable these models would be. They said that any of 126519LN Oysterflex / 126509 full white gold bracelet versions are doable and it would depend on when they come in for me to be able to get one. I would like some opinions on the dial variations from the people here. I have tried all variants of these watches, i.e. Oysterflex steel and black dial with lumed indices as well as full bracelet version with steel and black dial. Having a hard time making a decision which one to go for. Also, what are your thoughts on daily wearability between the oysterflex and full bracelet versions ? Some additional info, I currently own a 126710BLNR on Oyster, 124060, DJ41 126334 white lacquered dial with baton indices, an OP36 126000 green dial, as well as a slate dial Tudor Prince Date Chronograph from 2004 and a silver dial, gold indices IWC portofino from 2008. Many thanks in advance. |

Hard to find a more pleasing watch to wear than a precious metal Daytona. I personally love the bracelet. It adds so much to the look and feel of the watch.
If you are buying a new white gold Daytona from your AD, hold out for the dial you love. Never compromise on a big ticket item like that. It’s not a practical purchase - it’s all emotion. Have fun with it and be happy. My two PM Daytona watches: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you're having a hard time choosing between them, then you don't have a preference for metal or ceramic bezel, which for me is the biggest aesthetic difference.
If you buy the gold-bracelet version, then you can buy an after-market rubber band to get that "rubber" look. If you buy the Oysterflex, then you cannot buy a bracelet that will fit the watch (that I know of), so you'll have "only" the rubber-look. So for variety, and if you can swallow the $10,000 price-difference, get the gold bracelet. But there's really no worst choice between those two beauties. |

For the longest time I would have gone for the ceramic bezel only but having seen the full WG bracelet version in the metal has made me undecided as they are all four gorgeous watches. The additional 10k are a consideration but I will go for the one I really want once I have made up my mind on the exact configuration. 10k more or less will not change because it only leads to regret after - this is not an everyday purchase and I intend to keep it for the rest of my life. |

I picked up a black dial 126509 from my AD a couple of months ago, and it really is a stunning watch with tremendous versatility. It dresses up and down with ease -- I wear it into the office on weekdays and around the house w/young ones over the weekend. The silver subdials are mesmerizing, and I love the feel of a full PM bracelet.
Good luck with your decision. I know you'll be thrilled with any version! |

Looks like you already have quite a few watches with a bracelet. Get one with Oysterflex. It is very comfortable, will save you a few $$ and you also get ceramic bezel which just looks stunning on Daytona

That‘s a good point - I like the look of the Oysterflex but am a bit worried that I will go tired of it over time (as in a rubber bracelet not being as timeless as a full metal one) and that I‘ll never be able to go full metal if I choose an Oysterflex bracelet. First world problems indeed… What are your thoughts on the two different dial variants ? |

Go with a bracelet model. The OF is nice but as stated above you can get a great rubber strap that will work on it should you choose.

Thanks for the reply - kind of leaning that way now. From what I have read here there is nothing quite like a full PM watch and the feel of it.

I know you said you want to go AD rather than grey, but if you decide on full gold, do take at least a peek at 116528s on Chrono24: you can get a full gold 116528 for less than the retail price of an Oysterflex. It's hard not to see value in that.

Unfortunately, I am not a fan of YG. If PM it would have to be WG or platinum for me. But I definitely see your point from a financial POV.

I would go full bracelet as the option is there, like others have already said, to put it on a rubber strap. I think you would regret not going full gold.
I picked up a 126505 a month ago and am so glad I went full gold. Its absolutely stunning. I've worn it everywhere too - beach, pool etc and do not intend on babying it. Whatever you choose, enjoy it! |
