Watches & Motorcycles

For those that have both watches and motorcycles... Do you wear a watch (doesn't matter the Brand / Style / Smart watch / etc)? I find it very uncomfortable under my Jacket & Gloves and so days I ride I end up not wearing a watch to work or when I'm out. I'm so used to wearing a watch that when I get off the bike and get to my destination (work or otherwise) my wrist feels naked and I catch myself checking time on my watchless wrist...

Just thought I'd start a discussion and see what the community does...

I wore a Swatch when I was a dispatch rider (motorbike messenger) in London back in the 1980s. I was regularly checking the time, and I wore a sheepskin flying jacket and gloves.

Always wear a watch. Zip cuffs aren't too tight for the watch. Just adjust as necessary and ride on.

Always wear a watch and can't say I have noticed it on my wrist when riding.

Who did you ride for?

My best mate was around then for Addison Lee. he took me through town once going for a burger in Wendy's on the Strand , scared the living daylights out of me..

I tend to wear my Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein II . Its very robust being titanium & slim enough not to interfere with clothing although tbf here in Tenerife heat wearing heavy biker gear isn't for me

Arrow Express and later Vanguard (then Booker Bikes, when I switched to bicycles).

Ah my other mate Paul switched to pushbikes after he got banned for speeding one too many times (he didn't like London so did the long distance stuff on his CX) .He had to get the train up from Basingstoke every morning.

His legs became absolutely huge!

I worked in London (Berkeley Square and then Eastbourne Terrace, mostly), in the eighties Adam. I would be amazed if our paths hadn't crossed. I rode up from Sussex and parked in the bike bay in the square. Lots of dispatch riders used to park there, delivering to JWT etc.
So, you were one of those suicide jockeys, thrashing around on the Kwacker GT500 or GT750's with shaft drive, or perhaps the Honda CX500?
You did well to survive!!
I was using a Yamaha FJ to commute, in those days, and had two stolen, before I was given permission to park in the company's underground space.

My girlfriend worked as a temp in Berkeley Sq in 1985-86 and so I used to have my lunch break there on a bench when I could. I was only riding a Yahama RS100 on the circuit but it was quite nippy after a rebore. I lived in W9 so not that far from Eastbourne Terrace.

Thanks for the feedback all. Maybe I'll just need to get used to it. I do ride with gauntlet style gloves so perhaps a shorter pair may help out on my end.

I only ride in a tracksuit with full gauntlet gloves. On the monthly occasion that I ride on the street & not the track, I likely won't wear a watch. I generally don't need to know the time on my wrist, as it's displayed on the screen in front of me. When I stop, my phone is usually on the table.

The risk/reward of wearing a watch on my wrist while riding is nonexistent for me.

I did up until my accident. I was wearing my tt sub. Let's just say it spent less time @rsc than I did in the hospital. Only damage to the watch was to the crystal. I on the other hand had a little more damage.

Yep and I don’t often ride ATGATT when it’s just around the backroads of town.

I'm an ATGATT guy and have never given it a second thought or noticed a scuff. I was a music store in Germany a few weeks ago that had a sign asking people to remove their jackets and belts before trying out guitars. Never saw that before.

this one is a ‘22. I wish they still made the Daytona. I don’t like the look of this bike, it’s on its way out.

The Daytona 660 isn't for me, but it may be exactly what you're looking for. Worth a test ride, for sure.

I wish the street triple 765 was styled like a daytona.

If you were so inclined to do so, a Moto2 race-replica-style body kits are available for about $1200+shipping https://www.ukracesupport.com/produc...2-bodywork-kit

Not worth the hassle for me. I'd rather just find a not-abused Daytona 675R.

Eh. This one is on its way out. I think what’s next will be a ‘21 Honda CBR1000rr-r sp.

Got other priorities right now though so won’t be for a year or so.

All said the Triumph is a good bike, I thought I’d learn to love its looks though and I just haven’t.

I’m a Honda guy at heart. Time to just get the garage ornament that I’ve wanted forever.

This is the way. In my experience, getting "the next best thing" is not a viable option. I'd rather not have "the thing" versus get a placeholder.

As long as it isn't a potato-potato-potato-potato-potato chrome sofa that bar-hops, hard to choose a "bad" motorcycle nowadays. Get the pirate bike, as they call it on the forums, as that is what will make you happiest.

I really do want the R1300GS, but for $28-ish OTD, it's too pricey for me to justify. The '24 Tiger 1200 GT Pro is AMAZING & significantly less expensive, but is isn't the GS. The triple will stay in the garage for the foreseeable future, as a PT DD36 will need to come in first :) Enjoy the ride & if you're ever interested in a trackday or just fun mountainous roads in San Diego, shoot me a message.

When we finally replan our trip to Europe I’m timing it for Isle of Man and either shipping whatever bike I have over to ride or renting a bike to ride a day or twos worth of laps during the first week.

I haven’t been to Cali in 14 yrs. May take ya up on that one day.
