Patek 6119 G or R
Hello,
I was preparing to pick up the 6119G but my AD surprised me and told me he has both models. Unfortunately, I am not in good health at this time and the dealer is sending me my watch. I have never seen either of these watches in person. This is a special occasion watch as I turn 55 years old and have always collected Rolex. This will be my first Patek and my first dress watch. I am a college professor and prefer to lecture in slacks, a polo shirt and sports coats. I wear brown shoes, brown belts and lean towards Twead coats. The 6119R looks more classic to me and I tend to dress more classic, I don’t follow style trends at all? Which one would you select and why for me? I appreciate any help you can provide as I am not mobile for a few more months and can’t go see the two watches in person. Also, the dealer wants a decision by tomorrow. |

I would get the R. It exudes “college professor” to me. And I’ve see some great strap options in the R.
Either are great choices, though, so go with your gut, ultimately.

I like grey dials and the darker dial makes the G look less large than the R which would be a plus for me. But the R seems to fit your style better.

The R would suit your dress style-timeless as well. The G can be very hard to read in certain light…

Thank you everyone, I am leaning towards the 6219R. I am going to look at more pictures on YouTube and various watch reviews. I really appreciate your suggestions

Definitely go with the R. It is a watch that says older gentleman, who is also refined and not showy at all. The R is in a word, classic, as what you described your dress style to be. Cheers.

Trust me you can dress it down a bit too, thought not to the extend of the G. Get the quintessential patek has to offer |

I feel like the R has more long term wearability. Personally, I’d love a white gold 6119 with a white enamel dial with the hobnail bezel.

I would definitely given your situation lean towards the R. I am in the same decision process, I like the idea of the G as I think it could be slightly more under the radar and flexible, but the R is the direction I plan on going. Love both but love the R more!

I would say R because I like the aspect of those rose gold cases, they stand out by their shine. It can be worn in a traditional way (brown/burgundy stap) or casually (greys, electric blue, beige/toffee).
As the case is rather thin, it's not too obvious. It remains a classical-looking watch. However, the G is obviously more discreet and you can enjoy that aspect if you lecture students for instance. It can look very well with a grey strap, different materials (like suede). However, the grey brushed dial is much more discreet whereas the silvery opaline one (from the R) is slightly iridescent (which I enjoy a lot). The fact the R case reflects a little on the silver dial makes it warm instead of cold. Rose gold has (to me) something special and G is under the radar (though the R doesn't shout). The G is very nice but I think the R would be more exciting maybe? |

I faced the same decision and saw both in person and I chose the 6119r as it looked better in person than in pics, and the 6119g looked better in pics that in person. Of course, that is my opinion. I just ordered a new strap from PP and it took about 4 months and it is the alligator greyish blue color.

Another vote for the /r, but I’m partial to RG in general. I have a 5396/r that I chose over the /g variant. I also own a YM rose gold on Oysterflex that I love for the warmth of the metal.
Enjoy whichever you choose! |

Impossible to capture the dial beauty but the G dial was the decider for me
Absolutely gorgeous!!
