Saw a picture of Phil on the back of today's WSJ where it looks like he's wearing a SS GMT. Found a picture online during the same photo opp where it looks like it may even be a ceramic - has the PCLs (below).

Interestingly, he was wearing a different watch while he was playing (leather banded Milgauss maybe?), then switched to the GMT for the trophy presentation.

Stupid noo-b question, but is he a big Rolex fan?

They - Rolex - may have been one of the sponsors and therefore certain winners etc may be contracted / required to slap on a Rolex.

yes he is a big Rolex fan.. i used to c him on "Watch Time" magazine.. i cant remember which issue it was..but he had various Rolex collections

He is an employee of Rolex, he is "paid" via watches instead of money. Rolex does not pay people to wear there watches.

I'm pretty sure he plays with a Cellini on a leather strap in most tournaments, then afterwards looked like he switched to the GMT II-C. He sponsored by them after all and I'm sure Phil demands a hefty ransom from Rolex to be seen wearing their watches and used in their ads, no?

Yes this is true, he wears it very tight as well. If one thinks that Rolex does not pay Phil Mickelson to wear the watches that is insane. Phil is probably the most liked player on Tour worldwide and probably demands a very healthy price on top of pretty much any watch he wants to wear. I like his "choice" with the GMT though. I have seen him in person wearing a Daytona as well. I am sure he has em all.

Then I am insane because they DON'T pay him, they give him watches. Thats why Tiger went to Tag, because his manager wanted payment for tudor and Rolex doesn't work that way. I'm not guessing here, I know this as a fact.

i always wonder why phil wears the cellini. it just looks too small and tight on him. my gmt is pretty comfy on me when i play golf .

Really? I seem to not be able to wear any watch when I'm golfing. Just feels like it limits my movement somehow even though I know it doesn't in reality. I may have to give it a try with my soon to be arriving GMTIIc though.

I can´t talk, of course, about the financial aspects, but as a former National Trap shooter, I can assure you that

A) we Sport´s People are a superstitious kind of people!

and

B) too much mass ( read: heavy watch ) on a swinging mass ( read: wrist ) can and will influence "harmonics"!

I think "A" is waayyy more important ;-)

I'm with you. I leave my watch and wedding band at home when golfing.

I'm told that if you're wearing a DSSD and you can get it moving just right you can pick up 20 yds off the tee!

I also leave the watch and wedding ring in the bag when I play just because I don't like to think about anything moving around on my wrist when I swing, not that it matters anyway, 13.3 Index and rising fast. The only reason Phil wears that Cellini is that it is almost non-existent on his wrist and does not move a centimeter. I can't recall seeing another really good pro who wears a watch while playing. Is it really true Rolex pays in watches? Phil makes 40+ Million a year, mostly from endorsements, and if this is a fact he just moved a notch up in my book.
