Rolex Crown Alignment

This would drive me crazy if it was in my possession.

For a brand that is synonymous with precision, would this be with an acceptable tolerance?

Thoughts....?

That’s not an egregious amount in my opinion. Adds a touch of character.

Sit 3 together on a table, wouldn’t you want to know which one was yours?

My first reaction after seeing it would be, “Is it real or a fake?” It’s hard to believe Rolex QC let that slip out but anything is possible if the watch has a provenance.

I can’t imagine myself checking this in the first place. I would just move on.

It is within Rolex QC standards but can easily be rectified.
As far as I know caused by the play on the screws when fitting dial/ movement in the case.
Should take any watchmaker no more than a few minutes to sort it.

14 Rolex in my house and I have yet once to look at that. At my age, even with a magnifying glass I bet I would not see it.

Probably 2/3 of new Rolexes look exactly like this. The dial is misaligned, and for whatever reason it's almost 100% of the time rotated to the left, shifting the rehaut coronet to look like it's off to the right, as shown in that image.

This is extremely common. Non issue anyway, as the dial gets pulled out during service regardless.

As others have already mentioned, this is more common than not. I’m not sure that’sthey aim to align the crown in the first place though….no different than the crown on the winding crown when fully screwed down.

As for the crown misalignment on the rehaut, I find that it’s the subs and GMTs that are mostly off-centred. The other models seem to be more aligned (DJ, DD, Explorer, etc).

Someone outside of Rolex could have tinkered with it and this is the result?

That’s pretty common. Rolex QC ain’t as superlative as they claim it to be

They would be getting it back to fix if it was mine. This is what you see on the Fakes. For what you pay this should be lined up. If its off by that much each hour marker is also off. Unacceptable.....................

This would not bother me , they make to many and I’m sure that Rolex QC does don’t look at every single detail it would take too long and they would produce less pieces ,
Ive seen spotting on the hands and dials things that would drive me crazy.

This is okay? Nothing is perfect.

Cheers,

Think of it this way and it won’t bother you anymore. It’s not necessarily meant to be aligned.

It’s a rare, first position crown. Very valuable.

It is acceptable. I've seen a bunch that are slightly off center.

If it’s not your watch why worry about it?

In any event I would need to see the full picture before offering an opinion.

Is it genuine?

Perhaps Rolex should get rid of the branding on the rehaut and get rid of the crown on the winding crown, then everyone's would line up somewhere. There is a tiny bit of lateral movement on dial when they attach it to the movement top plate, but that fraction of a mm so called miss alignment will have no effect of operation of the watch.

Since I wouldn't see that misalignment without a loup it wouldn't bother me. BUT - If it's caused by a misalignment between the movement and the dial, then it could lead to problems when trying to synchronise the minute and second hands. I like my second hand to point to 12 when the minute hand hits it's mark. (Otherwise what would be the point of hacking?). That would bother me more.

Whilst we're being pedantic, it's; 'within, an acceptable tolerance'.

As I understand it:

The watchmaker sets the hand positions on the dial during assembly.

The rehaute is marked on the case.

There is some small adjustment available when the dial is fixed to the movement.

Is this correct??

Ding ding ding.

Prefer the smooth rehaut of old. One less thing to line up
