TT 16013 Rolex USA Service questions...
What is the approx cost to have Rolex completely service a mid-80s TT Datejust (16013)?
I've read that Rolex will completely clean, lubricate, time the movement. Polish the case and bracelet, ultrasonic cleaning, etc. Are crown and crown tube and gaskets changed? Also, I noticed some dark spots around the date window (is this normal with age or indicative of a problem?). Could be poss corrosion (possible entrance from crown)? Or oil? It's driving me nuts! It's all I can see now. Is this a sign that Rolex will require a new dial be installed? How much? The watch does seem to keep great time. But when I attempt to manually wind it the winding seems too stiff. Is this a bad sign, or fairly commonplace. And will this be "fixed " during a complete service? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm trying to decide if this watch will be a keeper or not. And how much to invest in it. Last edited by Big Nutty; 3 October 2009 at 02:00 PM.. Thanks. Other than the dial, what other "extras" might I encounter? For instance, will the crown, crown tube, etc. be included in $550 price?
Also, any help with the winding question? I've heard that the watch come back looking like new after service. True? Lastly, I've read in some other threads that Rolex will refuse service on older models. Why? And, any risk that the mid-80s Datejusts are getting "too old" for service? |

If you send your watch to Rolex, they will give you a detailed estimate of all costs.
They will also "recommend" things to change too, such as the dial and hands, and what extra charges that might entail.. You do not have to agree to any "recommendations". A service almost always includes includes the crown and tube as it is the most likely place to fail.. As far as stiff winding, it is likely just dry and a service will take care of it..

Thanks for all of the good info!
I'm still not sure if my TT jubilee bracelet is genuine Rolex or after-market (seller claims it's Rolex). Someone indicated that Rolex may "keep" any non-Rolex parts after servicing. True? Or, will they simply refuse to work on (the bracelet) and return with watch after the service as others have mentioned? Also, if I decide to replace the dial/hands, will Rolex send the original dial/hands back, if requested? |

Rolex has the right to destroy any trademark infringement, so they could grind off the crown or Rolex logos on a counterfeit watch or bracelet..
I have heard stories of it happening to watches, but not to bracelets... but they're still that... stories.. If you are not certain if your bracelet is counterfeit or not, put it on a leather strap for the service... They do not refinish an aftermarket bracelet and return it, unattached, with the serviced watch. They do not return the parts that they replace...........

Rolex keeps all parts replaced during a service to prevent them from ending up in counterfeit watches.

I just joined the forum, so hello to all.
Late last week I had my Rolex Two-Tone DateJust 16013, that I bought new in February 1987, sent to Rolex for servicing. It was last serviced in 1998. I got the estimate yesterday. Overhaul, including crown/tube and acrylic crystal (it had an aftermarket sapphire with several little chips) = $555 Recommendations:
I went with the hands and dial. I passed on the new Jubilee bracelet. DD Last edited by Denver Dick; 7 October 2009 at 12:26 PM.. Reason: Spelling correction . . . |

Wow, $1950 for a new bracelet. Since you are keeping the old one, do they rebuild it or send it back with the watch as is?

They send it back as is. I sent it in by way of Ben Bridge Jewelers. They told me the "stretch" or wear was not that bad at all, but Rolex "always" recommends a new bracelet if there is any "stretch" at all . . .

yes greekbum already purchased. watch arrived but not as represented. won't go into all of that now. dropped watch off at AD dealer (they have an independent "Rolex trained" watch tech) to go over watch and give some repair/service estimates and authenticate. They did say, however, that watch must go back to RUSA if I decide to go with a new dial and that only 4 dials are available (white, champagne, black, navy I think). Why such limited options? Crazy. Anyway, hope to have some news by the end of the week
