Newbie Datejust purchasing

Hi, thinking about purchasing a Datejust in the grey market and am looking for advice. I have a submariner, IWC mark xx and a Breitling superocean heritage. I would love to add a dress watch.

I don’t plan on ever selling a watch, but I need to consider if I ever need to jump ship and knowing I am spending well.

Do Datejusts in the higher price bracket of $16k US (24k aud) such as the two tone / chocolate dial 126231 hold their value well / are easier or harder to sell on compared to a 126234 silver dial around the $10k USD (15k aud) mark?

Is it silly to spend GMT Master money on a Datejust is another way I could phrase it.. considering I’m not on big money but I do have some gift money to spend at the moment. Much appreciated.

I’d buy what you want and worry less about what it might be worth … especially since you aren’t selling it.

Two-tone Datejusts don't tend to hold their value in the same way as the all-steel ones. But I agree with the others here: if the watch doesn't sing to you, don't buy it because you'll regret it. It's not a small purchase. Get what you WANT.

When in doubt, don't. I don't think DJ is difficult to get anymore especially if it's the one you described. So get it from AD.

However if you can say no then I actually suggest you don't get it at all. Maybe not what you'd like to hear but if you do have to care about resell value, then better to save the money.

In essence, either get it from AD if you have to have it or give yourself some more time while improving your finance.

You have a great collection already. Buy what you want. If it's a cost issue, consider saving for another year or two, maybe you'll solidify the choice or realize you wanted something else all along.

Don't hesitate to go for a previous model and have it serviced. If you plan on keeping forever, do some research on the movement...I would suggest 3135.

A TT Datejust is probably the easiest model to get from an AD. Sometimes you can request a particular configuration, put down a deposit, and order it from your AD. I would try that before going grey and spending an extra 3 grand. My TT Wimbledon was just over 13, with CA sales tax. I don’t ever think about resale value when I buy a watch. I buy what I like, and what I can afford. Good luck!
