Is there a band or singer…

Is there a band or singer that you can’t listen to because of an ex-girlfriend?

For me, it’s the Moody Blues and Pat Benatar.

First of all, I’ve been happily married for 31 years now. I love my wife. We’re very happy together.

But when I was in college, I dated this hot blonde woman, who broke my heart.

To this day, I still can’t listen to the Moody Blues or Pat Benatar because of her. My wife and I were driving to Costco earlier today and a Moody Blues song came on. I immediately changed the station. LOL

Reason is because we saw both those bands live when we were still dating. It’s been 40 years now, and I still can’t listen to them.

I’m actually quite the opposite. With age I’ve realized to look back on the failed relationships for the good memories and not the bad. There is a song for every “serious” ex I’ve ever had. They come on and I fondly remember the good times. Sometimes I will shoot them a text and wish them well when I hear their song.

The way I look at relationships is “you can dwell on the times someone’s screwed you or you can enjoy memories of good times that molded and led you to who and where you are today.”

The only one I haven’t been able to get past is the relationship with my daddy.

Some of the songs.

Knowing you - Kenny Chesney (the song hits but also the girl in the video closely resembles the first fiancé)

Wild Child - Kenny Chesney (same commentary as above except was a rebound after fiancé #2 that turned serious)

Don’t take the girl - Tim McGraw (first love)

There’s others I can’t think of right now.

No, but I dated a girl in the early 2000's whose previous boyfriend was the drummer from Train, when they won the 2002 Grammy she was like "I went to all their stupid shows in little no name towns for like 3 years and he dumped me when they got famous."

Needless to say we didnt last long.

She was a fun girl though.

So always chuckle when I see/hear Train.

Watch out for the forum police...even though they are TRF members like you and I.
On the topic, I do associate much of the music I hear pop up on the radio to girls/women in my past life....great memories and some not so great.

Foreigner. My HS girlfriend gave me their 4 album.
Now I automatically change the station if I hear them played. It's been almost 40 years but I'm not budging.

Not a girlfriend, but when I first moved to LA in the 80s I was lucky enough to rent a room in a penthouse from a 50 year old lady who would often get blasted on wine in the evening and pass out while playing Guns and Roses.

The damn thing would play all night long until I came out and turned it off. To this day I can't stand the syrupy sickening sound of Guns and Roses.

Probably the only other song that sticks with me is while dragging some chick home from the bar one night the ROLLING STONES song came on the radio: YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT.....but if you try sometimes you get what you need. And she goes....I can relate to that.

I would have been offended but I was too drunk and horny.

Not quite an answer to the question posed but…….

I left a long term girlfriend when she told me she had tickets to a Loverboy concert.
I knew there was no fixing that

It's sort of the opposite for me. Can't stand the ex, but I grew to really like the song. Eternal Flame by the Bangles. Funny because it's really not my type of music.

Not the same thing, but after my first big break up, I listened to Positively 4th Street a lot ("you'd know what a drag it is to see you").

Being older, I have put all of the challenges in past relationships where they should be, in the past. No song or other remembrance brings me around to failed relationships. I am who I am today because of my life experiences. If I had not moved on, either voluntarily or not, I would not have my amazing wife, children and family. That is just how I look at it.

I love the way music brings back memories.

There’s no specific songs that I relate in a negative way to any girls that I dated, but there sure are some positive ones

Never really thought about it before, but now that I am, guess there is an artist I associate with a breakup I wasn't in favor of. Being at one of his shows together was the last thing we did before I was informed my services would no longer be required. Guess there's a part of me that's held that against him through the years.

The good news is, he basically sucks.
She was the one who wanted to go.

It is very well said. I pretty much did that, too. Except for the one girl I mentioned in the first post. Lol. So maybe I’m not that far gone.

I dated a girl in the late seventies who hated disco music and loved country & western which was meh to me, but she dragged me to a Willie Nelson concert at the Stanford Pavilion (now Burnham Pavilion), and to my great surprise I really enjoyed it.
