Rolex vs Vacheron...
I have no issues jumping into any body of water with a modern Rolex (and do). However, although the modern VC Overseas has more than ample water resistance (150m), I still don't trust it.
Anyone swim with their VC? It seems to me that such a renowned watchmaker should have no issues living up to their specifications. Is it just that Rolex marketing is so much better in that department? |

Hoping Ken and some other VC collectors can chime in on this; I really like the offerings from Vacheron and have been considering one of the overseas variants as a possible go-to non Rolex daily.

I don't swim or wear on boat due to lack of flip lock.

Swim all the time with my OS with zero worries. Overseas one of most versatile watches I own period. Love the brand!

HH in the water would make me nervous. I own a VC Patrimony which obviously can't go in the water. However, if I had an Overseas, I'd still refrain from swimming with it. It's not only the risk of ruining the movement, it's also the fear of dropping it to the bottom of the sea. Imagine the quick release of the rubber band not closing correctly, leaving the springbar not firmly secured inside the lug hole. Or the quick release being actioned unintentionally while swimming. Not worth it, IMHO.

If you intend to dive a lot, go with Rolex. For swimmers or diver want-a-bes, VC is a vastly superior watch!

For context, I have a Sub and a DJ for any type of adventuring... but I've also grown weary of babying my Overseas Chrono. I guess it's time to find out whether it's really a sports watch or not! I will say it can take some pretty serious knocks. This is my third Overseas because of the perceived fragility. But I really like this one so I'm keeping it regardless.

Haha sounds like me! Only diving I do is to the deep end of the pool if I drop my sunglasses after one too many old fashioneds

None of the above. Just get a Tuna if you’re gonna be in the water it’s a cool watch and always fun. Boats just seem to me to be high impact environments for any watch I am wearing.
Hey look - it's got a DeepSea dial and it is also a DayDate - all for less than 2 BOAT Bucks. Plus it's got a super high accuracy special quartz movement. Probably the best most well sorted dive watch ever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it can clearly be used to swim with. I would not do it as I only submerge dive watches rated to 300m. Water and watches just do not mix.

If it’s rated to 150m why are you worried?

My 3rd gen Overseas DT has been in the water many many times. Absolutely no issue at all. On the rubber strap it is amazingly comfortable.
I have a Sub and a BB58 as well when things get a bit rougher, but typically take my VC on vacation due to the extremely useful dual time function. Just like with any other watch make sure you have it tested for WR every once in a while |

I took my 4500v on my sea doo numerous times. You have nothing to worry about at all if it’s an overseas.

I would say any recent generation Overseas is fine to swim with. I have taken a bunch for a swim including the 3 hand 4500v, ultra this QP 4300v even the tourbillon 6000v.
Never has an issue. I have even spoken to someone who kite surfs with their 4300v. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can certainly swim with an Overseas.
Heck, a friend of mine surfed with his Reverso.

My VC overseas Everest is my holiday watch. I have taken into the sea, rivers and waterfalls, it’s taken a beating on these trips and all I do is wash it with a bit soapy water.
Zero issues ever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

VC is 150 m wr
A gmt or datejust is just 100m wr. A sub is 300m. So i would go in the water with the vc over the dj, gmt or skyd. The rest is just marketing

I wear my 2nd Gen Overseas Chronograph in rotation with a 16600 Sea Dweller and haven't had issues with either. I take both swimming and hiking in the mountains. The Overseas clasp hasn't ever opened unexpectedly.

I love Rolex. My first real watch is the Milgauss and I love it. The whole industry would not exist with them. But they are not an innovative brand. In fact, they are way behind. Their biggest failing is lack of real complications. None of their watches have tourbillons, minute repeaters, skeleton dial nor perpetual calanders. I think the most interesting thing I can think of when it comes to Rolexes are the lightning seconds hand of the Milgauss and the meteorite dials. It’s gotten a bit too conservative.

You win, that's an incredible watch to wear for those activities.
