New Zealand South Island Trip - modem burner
We went to South Island of NZ for a driving holiday.
Day 1 arrived in Christchurch, only got time to take a few snapshots around town centre. Day 2 it was raining all day long. We went to the Arts Centre - they don't allow photography inside - bugger :( only a few outside shots. Day 3 drove down to Mount Cook. It's a very scenic drive. You see these little creatures everywhere! Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Takepo. Lots of people got married here. Finally arrived at our hotel at Mount Cook. We booked one of their chalets and this is the view outside the window. Dinner is very nice too. Their restaurant has panoramic view of the mountains. Food is very nice too. Day 4 we had a boat cruise of the Tasman Glacier. Also went to explore around the region. Kea's Point track - Full view of Mt Cook. Lake Oahu Finally took some night shots out of the chalet. This was taken at 9pm on near full moon light. Day 5 we drove to Dunedin to have a look see. On the way out of Mt Cook to Dunedin, we ran into some farmers with a 2000 strong herd of sheep! Dunedin Lanarch Castle - not quite a real castle as in Scotland's or Bavaria's, but it's at the top of the hill with some spectacular views. Day 6 we drove from Dunedin to Queenstown. Cromwell, along State Highway 8. The original 43m Kawarau Bridge Bungy jump. My son taking the plunge. He's been looking forward to this for a LONG time. (This is not my photo. I was too busy taking a video) Day 7 we had a cruise at Doubtful Sound - this place has like 7 meters of rainfall annually, with 200 rainy days per annum. On our way to the boat our coach went past a blizzard, hale storm and it just kept bucketing down. It's in a big national park - no houses, no settlement in this vast area, just wilderness. Also went into the Manapouri Underground hydro power station. The tunnel was like 5 meters wide and 2 km inside the mountain. Day 8 we went up to Queenstown's Gondola. Magnificant views. They have a mini Luge track there. Fun! Then we came back in the evening... :( |

Wonderful pics, Kai. Brings back memories of our trip to the South Island a couple of years ago. One of our favorite activities was a jet boat ride on the Shotover river. Some breathtakingly beautiful scenery on the South Island.
Thanks for sharing.
