Would you trade this ROO for a DSSD and end up with both DSSD and GMT IIc?

Would you trade in this ROO for a DSSD and end up with both DSSD and GMT IIc?

There will also be some cash back (TBC) on this deal which will be sweet but I’m more interested in your views and comments on the change and if you think that ending up with both DSSD and GMT IIc is not smart as these watches look more similar than the current ROO and GMT IIc line-up?

Here’s the current driving force behind the potential change:

A) With my lifestyle the DSSD is probably a more practical watch - I'm also always weary of knocking the ROO no matter how much rubber is on it.

B) Cash back in the bank is appealing.

C) I still want to own a BIG watch and have always admired the DSSD.

Thanks in advance for any comments/thoughts.......

Well IMHO two Rolex watches are better than one, myself not a fan of the RO great movement but don't like the dials or style. And again not a fan of the DSSD but IMHO the Rolex watches will hold there prices far better than the RO, if you ever did decide to sell on.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if this is just in Hong Kong but I was told today that the price for the DSSD has recently fallen quite a bit from 1 year ago too. However prices on models such as GMT IIc and Sub etc are still stable?

AP ROO is a higher class watch than DSSD, it retails for twice as much. Apart from this I think DSSD and GMT II C are quite similar looking watches. Similar style, dial colour, bracelet type and everything, main difference is that dssd is much bigger and for many people it is very uncomfortable to use. On the other hand AP ROO is a unique design, superbly finished iconic watch. In my view, AP (rubber bracelet, hectagonal bezel and white dial, chrono function, very sporty look) and GMT IIC (steel bracelet, ceramic round bezel, black dial, more conservative look) compliment nicely each other with GMT II C. In summary, there is no way I would trade my ap roo for a dssd...

Well its the same for most new Rolex watches when they first come out they get a premium price. But like everything today the market is only in what someone is willing to pay no matter what the brand..But in proportion to price paid, in general Rolex will have a higher resale value than most other high end brands, except say Patek if bought at the right price.IMHO while the RO has a fine chronograph movement.IMHO it does not warrant the very high retail price.Myself not a fan of the modern Daytona but IMHO the Cal 4130 is as good as the RO movement.

Thanks for replies to date.

Certainly agree with the comments that the ROO and DSSD are very different animals and its a downgrade in many respects.

A dealer here tonight has offered an OK exchange....... brand new DSSD and US$3.5K cash exchange. Uhmm its tempting for sure

I'd keep the AP personally, or, if you do trade it, trade it for something in a similar tier since you already have a Rolex. What about a Patek Philippe Aquanaut, IWC Big Ingenieur, JLC Compressor or VC Overseas?

If you don't wear your ROO, you might as well trade it.

Personally, I would keep a ROO over a DSSD, but I don't own either so what do I know. :)

+1

Keep the ROO, it is a beautiful watch. The DSSD, Sub and GMT are all variations on the same theme so an addition of the DSSD won't complement your collection.

I would trade the ROO in a heartbeat.

The DSSD has a completely different bezel and size and weight compared to the GMTIIc. The older GMTII had a much more versatile bezel, but with the IIc they've locked down it's functionality and changed it's look so that it no longer looks or functions like the Sub/SeaDweller bezel.

I think these two watches would make a great pair.

This trade would absolutely be an upgrade.

I wouldn't, unless I could flip the IIC and DSSD, combine with the cash, and buy something else. The DSSD is not a BIG watch...it's just tall. Then again, it's not my watch.

You could paste the bezel of the ROO with all sorts of meaningless text from a P-touch machine and you'll have incorporated the most distinctive attribute of the DSSD, and then just peel them off when not required.

Seriously, I can't even imagine trading that ROO in on a DSSD, but to each his own. I also agree with many of the above. If you selling just to have two watches vs one (a reasonable position) don't get two that are so close to look and of the same brand. Many better options out there that would give you more versatility.

As much as I love the DSSD, I wouldn't trade down from a ROO. It would be far easier to just save up for a DSSD.

Good luck deciding.

Keep the ROO for special events...wear the hell out of the GMTIIc and it will look like new in service..save for a DSSD if you want it

Sounds to me that you're very keen on the DSSD and not so keen on keeping your ROO...in which case, I'd say go for it!

While I'm not a huge fan of the AP, since you already have it, I'd keep it and just save for the DSSD. But then, I'm not a flipper.

DSSD is mine.....

Well another deed done……..Yep I traded in the cool ROO for the awesome DSSD and actually feel very happy about the whole change.

In addition to getting a brand new DSSD (stickers took forever, along with verification of serial number through the thick crystal) I also received US$4K…….thank you very much.

To be clear there was nothing wrong with my ROO, it was a cool watch and rare in the wild as I only ever spotted in watch crazy Asia but the robustness and looks of the DSSD I simply prefer. It was also nice to bank in some cash too.

Quick impressions of the watch is simply a confirmation of ALL the positive reviews I have read on the forum with the Ring Lock inscription and weight/fit of the watch NOT being an issue at all. If you have not seen in person or worn this watch for longer than 2 minutes you really simply cannot comment on it as its very different from any picture.

Here’s to a brand new weekend with my brand new Monster Watch , have a good one everyone.

I will post some pictures soon.
