We’re much further away from AGI than most people think.
But when they get to the ASI level, which is even further away, that’s when things are really going to get interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Don’t we have a Canadian to thank for all of this?
He’s off somewhere with his Nobel prize, worried about what’s to come of all this ![]() |

Illya Sutskever? He’s one of the brains behind ChatGPT. I’m pretty sure he left and started his own company. I suppose I could Google that to confirm, but I don’t feel like it. lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes, according to current knowledge, Canadians, particularly Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, are considered key pioneers in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), often referred to as the "godfathers of AI" for their significant contributions to deep learning and neural networks, making Canada a leading nation in AI research and development |

I'm sorry Dave....
I just read that OpenAI is releasing a video generator. It’s called Sora. I’m eager to see all the videos everyone on TRF will create.
At first, it’s going to be limited to 20 second videos. But I imagine it will quickly evolve from there. Everyone will be able to create their own movies before you know it. Bye Bye Hollywood! EDIT: I completely missed this on the other thread. Not sure how, but it’s already being discussed in another active thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah, Google’s stock soared today because of this announcement. For perspective, Willow is a quantum computing chip that was able to perform a computation in under 5 minutes that would take today’s fastest computer one septillion years. Septillion is ten to the power of 25 or 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years. It’s an incredible achievement, but they are at least ten years away before this chip will be market ready and available for any practical applications. What is really interesting is that this chip could be available right around the same time they reach the level of ASI in terms of AI. That’s when AI might make science fiction movies look silly because it will be far more impressive than any Hollywood depiction of AI to date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Isn't a septillion 1 followed by 24 zeros?
![]() In any event that is quick. ![]() I may be wrong as you are the expert. ![]()

I was confused by that, too. Septillion is followed by 24 zeroes. That is definitely correct. But I was paraphrasing what I saw in an article, and it states 10 to the power of 25. I honestly didn’t think anyone on here would catch that. lol. So I didn’t make any effort to modify or qualify any of that. I just let it slide. Either way, that’s a big number. Here’s a snippet of the article I was paraphrasing. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

An article written by Google PR-ers , who sat in a marketing meeting, surrounded by engineers telling marketing people all about their estimates based on a problem designed to optimize qubit processing.
How? https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/n...m%20processors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I work in I/T and I don't understand quantum computing. So as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist.
LOL The article is quite interesting and a little bit scary. I have been saying for years that AI is just a buzzword (like "the cloud") and is neither intelligent nor artificial. I may have to rethink that now. The cloud is still a misnomer and total hype, but that's a different thread.

I was a little confused by whether there is a typo in the article or the author just got it wrong. He stated that it would take ten to the power of 25 or 10 Septillion years. But 10 septillion years is actually 10 to the power of 24. So did the author mean to say ten to the power of 24 and 10 Septillion years, or is it really ten to the power of 25. That extra zero really matters. And the source of the article is Google, so you’d expect them to get that right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
