RIP Rickey Henderson

What can you say about this guy's impact on each and every baseball game he showed up to play?

In baseball, there are almost always lively discussions about 'who was the greatest this' or 'who was the greatest that?'. But there is no such debate when it comes to 'who was the greatest base stealer?'. When you take the number of steals the player in second place had, Henderson had 50% more.

RIP Rickey

The "Man of Steal"

What a star from humble beginnings.

Born in 1958, on Christmas Day in Chicago in the back of his parents' Chevy.

He grew up in Oakland CA playing baseball, basketball and football at Oakland Tech High School.

His Mom chose baseball for him because it was safer.

Godspeed - too early at 65.

Rest in peace.

David Cross used to do a bit about Rickey in an old standup set (which is sweary and a bit mean, but I think is actually affectionate): https://youtu.be/rMbVpbIBnWs?feature=shared

RIP. An audacious person. Which is how he stole so many bases. He was bold and supremely confident. Must have been an exciting teammate. Much too young.

Rickey was a talented ball player, a humble man, and will be sorely missed. He stole more bases in his career than any other major league player. R.I.P., Rickey; 65 is way too young. First Willie Mays and now Rickey in the same year. The Bay Area won't be the same. Damn!

I saw him play many times as a Yankee, and as a Met.

A great ball player.

RIP Ricky
