Submariner case question
Does the 40mm maxi/super case (which I believe came out in 2010) feel the same or larger than the current 41mm model due to lugs/overall shape?
I guess stating another way — does a 40mm Hulk feel same as 41mm Starbucks?

They wear very similarly, but the new 41's look larger due to dial presence relative to the thinned-out case lugs.

Most people say there is no difference between the two except the narrower lugs on the 41 are apparent and more balanced to the case.

The dial on the 41s is ever-so-slightly larger in diameter. Not much when measured, but noticeable on the wrist. Also, the bracelets are noticeably wider. The 41 wears slightly larger, but it's not enough to matter at least to me; the case shape and wider bracelet would be the deciding factors.

I believe the 40MM Sub wear more comfortably on the wrist, the 41mm does not feel the same to me. I like them both you go wrong either way.

I think the midcase is a little thicker on the 12 and the caseback thinner, while remaining the same overall thickness. I know lots of people found the older subs less comfortable due to the protruding caseback but it depends on how your wrist is. For me the thicker caseback "anchored" the watch. It sits in this spot. The newer design seems to slide around more.

Sub41 has the exact same case as the GMT Master II, same lug to lug size (I compared them both side by side, without the bracelets).
The difference is in the narrower lugs (broader bracelet) and face of the watch (dial+bezel), overall GMT is approx 40.3 mm wide whereas the Sub41 is 40.6 mm. Not quite 41 mm but close. |

Here is a good comparison between the current 41 vs. the maxi case 40mm Submariner. Lots of measurements.

I've been wearing a Hulk as my daily for years. A friend of mine just picked up the Starbucks today. We got to compare the two side by side and honestly, there wasn't any big difference. Yes, the clasp is shorter and wider on the newer model, but the case size was almost identical. One the wrist, they appeared to be the same.

I own one of each and there is a slight difference in appearance, but for wear, it is the same to me.

This is not my picture. Someone else previously posted this. 114060 vs. 124060.
