Macros

Undusted an 18 years old Nikon D80 (10MP) + Tokina AT-X M100 AF PRO D AF 100mm f/2.8, long forgotten inside my garage, to check if they still work on my 3 weeks old Rolex Day Date 36 Green Aventurine.

Not before reading how quartz create flake shaped inclusions in a stone called aventurine found in Brazil to India, and Spain to Tanzania (hope Rolex still boycott Russia for Ukraine invasion!)

Light entering the quartz flakes diffracts & reflects from to dusty / sparkly appearance known as "aventurescence."

Fushite, a green chromium-rich metal inclusion in-between Aventurine quartz flakes impart a distinct green color to aventurine.

Depending on the Chrome % inclusion each location of the stone, you get different shades of green, amidst the quartz aventurescence.

Can’t see it without loupe.
Easier with just a macro lens

It's a beautiful dial material - and the tiny spots of quartz almost depict a galaxy of stars - each one unique.

In the spirit of sharing the love of this material, here is a Rolex YT Short that gives even more appreciation of that dial's mesmerizing qualities.
