Platinum Rolex 1908

Hi All,

I was on the waiting list for a Platinum Rolex 1908 at my local AD. A couple of days ago, I was told that my local store will close at the end of January.

So, I assume that my purchase history, as well as the relationship that I've established with my sales associate over the years, will also go away.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Rolex AD that either has a 1908 that they would consider selling or a location that has a short waiting list?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Might be ideal to state your current AD, so others in the state don't suggest.

Sad to hear your AD is going away.

Gutting when AD goes but one can only hope more production means more watches, who knows, try elsewhere, this watch buying is a big game, spout some bs at new store see what happens …. Or go grey, not seen the new 1908 yet anywhere .. not sure I’ve seen one on here either, might be wrong …

Start looking at the Trusted Sellers and Chrono24. You can find the watch.

Thank you all for responding!

It's not the end of the world, but it's still a little disappointing. :-)

I've never considered the grey market. I'm pretty sure that's NOT the route for me. I'm way too type "A" for that!

You are correct, Bazil, other than the Rolex website, I have not seen the Rolex 1908 anywhere. I've called several ADs at various stores, in various states and so far none of them have even seen it either.

I think it may just turn out to be my unicorn watch!

I would think if it is that rare, the used price on it will be high. Good news is there are lot of other options such as Lange, Patek, Breguet, VC, AP and many more for arguably better finished movements and which are available new and for a discount on the used markets.

Losing that established relationship can definitely be a setback.

Who's the AD, and did they say why they're losing Rolex?

The rudest AD I've ever been in, Mayor's in Buckhead, offered me a YG black dial 1908 as a walk-in back in October. I think you will be able to get the piece from another AD. I don't think the list is long; they just don't likely get a lot of them.

Ha! Welcome to Atlanta. I've been wonderfully disappointed by the Mayor's at Avalon. Moved over to Brown's in BH to restart the clock once again.

OP: I saw a 1908 at Hing Wa Lee (Walnut location) about a month ago when I was in LA. They offered it to me as a walk-in. Probably gone now, but it wouldn't hurt to call.

Awesome! Thank you for the information. I just called, and although they do not have one now, he is the first person today who was willing to take my information and also texted me to make sure I had his contact information. :-)

Great! They still text me every couple of weeks offering me watches. One of these days it will be one I want. Good luck!

This is so true!!

I just purchased a Cartier there for my son for Christmas. If I had known I would have to start over, I would have made sure to make the purchase at the new AD.

I'm not sure of all of the details, but my AD worked at Ben Bridge Jewelers here in Texas. I'm not sure if all of the stores will be closing or not, but my AD said her store will be closing on January 31.

After a little bit of searching the internet, I saw that a Cartier will be opening in their location.

I called a Rolex Boutique about 3 hours from me (who, due to the scarceness of it, laughed when I told him I was looking for a Platinum 1908), said he knew about the closing and also said he had not seen a 1908 in person yet and that I should try again much later in the year.

Is it Lee Michaels at the Alamo Quarry Market?

I've asked about that watch in Dallas, Chicago, LA, and London. None of the AD salespeople have seen one yet-they've seen it in the magazine-one fellow said that those watches have yet to make it out of Switzerland. The black faced ones are not in demand at all.

Assuming you're talking about the Domain. If I understood correctly, Zadok (coming to the Domain) will be a Rolex AD. Doesn't necessarily help your current situation, but maybe the Houston location could help out for their opening.

No, it's Ben Bridge in Austin.

I hate to see them go (again, I do not know if it's just this location or all of their stores.) I've shopped with them for many years.

Yes, the Ben Bridge I was referencing is in the Domain.

That would be wonderful!! I've never shopped with Zadok before. Do you have a good recommendation for a SA at Zadok?

Unless you want to buy a daytona or pepsi down the line, just go grey
