Shipments from australia to usa

Hello, i have been trying to look for precise info regarding this topic but I am not finding anything clear.
If a steel watch is purchased in au and shipped to us via dhl fully insured, what are the import costs, if any, to consider and who will be the office that will request the payment? Will sales tax also be applied? The watch price pre owned is approx 20k. Thanks

I export a fair bit - if you have an EIN or reseller cert you won’t pay sales tax, duties are broken down between the case, the bracelet and the movement.

Duties are payable by whoever the label owner nominates - I will always just have duties charged to my FedEx account because it is easier.

No i am not a reseller. So it means i’ll pay sales tax as well as import duties? Who decide the value of the watch? Is it the price paid or? Thanks

In Ontario Canada duty and tax on a Swiss made watch is 18% regardless of where it ships from.

The importer pays it.

In my EUROPEAN, but international shipping experiences, DHL is a great courier.

Simply ask them BEFORE shipping the watch, and they will thell you all the information you need. Morover, they will do ALL the paperworks, they will charge you all the costs, so you can pay these at once with a credit card BEFORE you can get your watch.

About custom taxes: It is based on a global system, it is not a big deal, it is around 0-3% in this case, depending on the actual watch.
About sales taxes: Depends on your state. If your state has it, then you have to pay this tax too.

All the rest of the costs, like customs works are including in the shipping fee - there are no hidden or later charged costs at DHL.

I hope this helps

I think it is a helpful comment, actually. Quick search for a roundtrip flight two-ish weeks from now is ~$1200. If import & sales taxes exceed that & crucially, you have two days to burn, might be a fun trip. https://skiplagged.com/flights/NYC/a...-04/2025-02-06

I know someone who just purchased a watch, value of about $5300 and he paid $88 to ship from Australia to USA.

Hailwood Peters is an australian seller in the classifieds. He has probably shipped to the US. Try sending your question with details in a PM.
