So where / how did you propose to your wives?

So we are sitting here watching AFV and this segment came on showing the amusing ways that men have proposed to their wives. I thought it might be fun to see where and how all we deeply thoughtful, creative, and romantic gentlemen actually proposed to our lovely wives.

Me.... I proposed to my wife under a huge oak tree at the Alamo.

We were in San Antonio taking care of some unfinished business and I told Leah " Today we are going to visit the Alamo". Being the phenomenal historian she is, she said, "Alamo...., Alamo!! I don't want to go to the Alamo! Why are we going to the Alamo?"

I replied, "today another man is going to fall at the Alamo and I want you to be there to see it. Trust me, this is not to be missed!"

That was enough to stir her curiosity so the rest is history.

Actually the reason that I chose the Alamo for "the place" was that I figured it would be there on our Silver and Golden anniversaries so we could go back to reminisce. So far, so good!

Congrats Richard! Great Story and I wish you and your wife many happy years together. As for me... I proposed to my EX next to the Christmas tree on Christmas eve....

No wonder I hate Christmas now!....

Never proposed. In fact, I've been single for most of my life (even though I'm only 23 lol).

I told Rudy that if he wanted to keep living with me....he needed to marry me :) So he proposed to me on my 23rd birthday.

I was actually upset with him at the time and I was crying and he talked me into coming into our kitchen to get a glass of water and the ring was in the box on the counter.

We were a whirlwind...he moved in with me after we dated a week, he got me a seiko watch when we were together 1 month. He bought us a house when we were together 2 months, he got me a new truck when we were together 3 months. By 10 months together we were married and it's been 16 years next week on Oct 16.

We were on a cruise of the Caribbean and I proposed to her at dinner. With about 1500 people watching. Talk about pressure. I KNEW she would say yes.

My brother was my partner in crime. He brought the ring on board so she wouldn't find it in our luggage and in case customs wanted to start tossing bags. You never know.

So I got on one knee and she turned toward me and was nearly crying. The waiters were on standby with champagne and the ships photographer was too.

I got the words out somehow and she said yes. I wouldn't trade her for anything or anyone. She is truly the best thing that ever happened to a guy like me.

At an upscale restaurant on Valentine's Day.

On my knees, I pulled out one of the roses from an arrangement that I had previously arranged to have placed on our table. This partiuclar rose was really a disguised ring holder, so I opened it to show the ring inside and asked her to marry me.

I didn't think anyone else there was watching, but when she said yes, it seemed like the entire restaurant started clapping. I turned red and got off my knees rather quickly.

It was a mild July afternoon and when Erin woke up from the Quaalude I slipped in her Woodchuck Apple Cider. I told her I went through her wallet, copied all the pertinent information just for the record and took some provocative pictures of her in her sleep. If she didn't marry me, she would have a big ol' mess to clean up later. I gave her the ring from the 25 cent machine located in the lobby of the Motel Six where I took her to... And the rest was history. Two annulled restraining orders later, we're still inseparable.

We were doing some renovation work to my then girlfriend's home. We had gotten down to the new light fixtures and had planned to go to Lowe's to pick out some ceiling fans. I told her to pick out the ceiling fan for the living room. When she had, I asked her: "are you certain that is what you want?"
She replied "yes".
I said to her: "Take another look and be absolutely certain that is what you want".
When she looked back again (a little annoyed) to confirm her decision, I was holding ... the box. I opened it and said, "I thought this was really what you wanted".
Her reply ... and this is classic: "Oh sh!*"
So ... I asked her and she said yes ... under the ceiling fan display, in the lighting section of Lowe's in Lexington, SC.
That's my story. Only the folks who know how important real estate is to us really get it - but it's a fun story anyway.

Ok, first, I want to offer a sincere congrats to all of you men that have found such wonderful women to spend your life with... you are all very blessed and I wish you nothing but health and hapiness with your wives for the next 100 years....

Second, I hate you....

That is from a middle-aged, divorced man that is still searching for that special someone, but just hasn't had much luck... (and I'm really a nice guy too! You can ask my parole officer!). Anyway, reading all those heart-softening stories about the proposals and the wonderful lives you have built together has put me in a lonely and bad mood... I think I'll go kick my dogs....

Sigh....
