Clear serial number

HELLO,I hope that anyone who has information will provide it to me..
I bought a watch from a watch shop because it is old and used ,I took it to a ROLEX shop in Dubai , I was answered by an employee that the watch does not match their system it will be sent to ROLEX in SWITZERLAND .
A report was made by ROLEX in SWITZERLAN after inspection it turned out that the serial number on the watch was engraved somewhere other than Rolex
He asked me to agree to Rolex removing the serial number to prevent the watch from being sold ..
DOES ROLEX really do this procedure of erasing the serial number and returning the watch to me??

The watch is either stolen, with its serial number removed and replaced with a random one that doesn't belong to Rolex, or it's a replica. Which one is it?

Seems Rolex wants to remove all corporate logos, wording, etc, not just the serial.

This is very interesting and weird! So, the watch itself I am assuming is genuine, but the engraved serial number is the issue? Or, is the case itself the part that's counterfeit? Or, is the whole watch counterfeit? Doesn't seem like they're saying much on details. I am wondering about the authenticity of the movement and everything else too. I would definitely contact the store you purchased it from and see what they have to say. I would personally want to seek out a refund. Hopefully the store is a reputable seller.

Trademark laws allow the owner of the Trademark to remove them as that Trademark is legally theirs.

You imply that Rolex should return the watch to you so you can get a refund. This is unlikely because the watch is counterfeit, an illegal activity.

Your beef is with whomever sold you a counterfeit watch, not Rolex. Seek legal advice or file a proper police report, or you could simply discuss this with the seller.

Inquire about having them correct the watch, where you will pay for a new mid-case.

Clear serial number

Sounds like the watch shop sold you a counterfeit Rolex. I would tell them to return it to you, as is, so you can get a refund from the shop. If they remove all the markings, how will you prove to the shop that it’s the watch you bought from them? (I’m assuming you have the receipt with the fake serial #) Bring them the watch and the letter, when you get it back. Demand a refund! Expect the dial to have the crown removed, as well as serial and model numbers removed, if you agree to Rolex’s request. Good luck!

Unfortunately, it looks like you inadvertently purchased a counterfeit watch. I'm assuming they cannot legally confiscate it, but they can remove all their crowns, logos and markings. Take whatever you get back from Rolex to the seller and try to get a refund. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.
This. You were sold a counterfeit watch either knowingly or not by your seller. Rolex has the right to grind off their trademarks but has already said they will return your watch. If your seller is honest they will return your money.
I think if it was something simple like an aftermarket dial they would offer to fix it but a bogus mid case is a sure sign of a fake.

If you bought the watch anywhere in the UAE, the seller will most likely give you a refund just based on the letter from Rolex. They would not want to risk a complaint since laws are super strict.

1. The watch itself is not genuine, or
2. A part of the watch (the mid-case) was replaced with a non-authentic part at some point, possibly due to pitting.

If it’s the latter, Rolex should be able to swap out the mid case with an authentic one. But it sounds like the whole watch might be a replica. I just wanted to give OP some direction in case purchasing a genuine mid case could rectify the issue and allow Rolex to service the watch.

Welcome to TRF. Sorry it had to start like this.

See if Rolex will take a complete set of photographs for you before they start removing anything. Explain your side. I’m pretty sure if you knew the watch was counterfeit, Rolex would be the last place you would have sent it for service.

When the watch is returned, take it and the photographs and the letter to the seller and ask for a refund.

Good luck
