So who`s getting the new Nikon D3s?

I can`t help myself, I just really, really, really want one! I`ll be the first to admit that I`m a complete gadgetfreak (going from a Nikon D80 to the D90 in a matter of months..), but this camera is nothing short of amazing!
Iso 200-Iso 102400!!
There is just too much goodness to write, so here`s the spec sheet link to Nikon: http://nikon.com/about/news/2009/1014_d3s_01.htm

And it can be yours for a measly 5200usd.
What really sucks is that in Norway where I live, it will cost about 1800usd more than in the U.S, now that`s just not fair!
So who lives in the U.S and wants to buy me one? I`ll pay you back....honest I will...

Take a trip over here!

How strict are customs? Whats stopping you from ordering from B&H or ebay?

It's very tempting, but I'm sure the same features will trickle down to a D700 update.

Also, the reason I shoot my Canon 5D is because Nikon still doesn't have a standard zoom with VR that I'd want to shoot with. If they added VR to the AF-S 24-70 f/2.8, that would make it a very different ball game...

I'd like to see the same sensor performance in an update to the D300S.

As much as I want one, I`m kinda hoping the same sensor will be introduced in the D700 (D700s) at about half the price of the D3s. Then I would seriously concider one. For now it stays a dream, and to be honest I dont need it, I cant even take decent pics with my D90 On the other hand, that could be because I havent got a full frame camera
Damn you, Chip! You`ve personally ruined all my excuses for buying expensive gear

Well, if my camera body can do ISO 25600 then there is no reason to get VR anymore. You can do much smaller shutter speed with the same aperture that will render VR irrelevant :-)

BTW, the D3s is nice, but also consider - 24M pixels... what hard disk are you going to carry for a photoshoot? it will blow 50GB in no time

The D3s is actually 12mp, I guess you`re thinking of the D3x wich is 24mp.

You're right. :-) I haven't had my dose of dpreview earlier
Still, the price is too much for me. USD2.5k max which is the price range for the D700 (or the update one)

You're correct that you can shorten your shutter speed by selecting a higher ISO, but the movement compensation is still something I'd rather not live without. I still shoot some lenses that aren't IS, but I prefer to have it on my main standard lens. It greatly increases the percentage of "keepers".

I own Nikon gear (could never really part with it after I went to Canon). I'd actually like to see an update to the DX sensor cams since I own a lot of crop DX glass.

A lot of folks in the Canon camp were hoping that there would be a 5D successor that didn't increase the pixel density. Adding the same state-of-the-art techniques that are used to make these uber dense sensors usable is making the less-dense sensors really remarkable. Nikon is doing it (clearly) but it's hard to say if Canon will go in that direction in the DSLR space. They already have with the G11 p&s, which has a less-dense sensor than the model it is replacing - the G10.

Canon G10 - 14.7 Mpxl
Canon G11 - 10.0 Mpxl

I'm actually more interested in small cams right now... I never carry my DSLRs because they're so big.

I'm thinking either the G11 ($500) or the Panny GF1 with 20mm f/1.7 prime. ($1,000)

Check out Amazon - $899 for the Panny but you might have to wait a little. I played around with the 14-40 and love that little thing.

My friend just go the S90 last week and its everything the review says it is. Much more pocketable than the G11 and performance should be just as good.

Just be sure that when you add it to the shopping cart that its sold and ship by Amazon and not some third party.

I see several people have received their earlier pre-orders and the body only are starting to pop up.

Good choice again..

I know - I bought my 5D and 24-105L from Amazon and you're right... I would buy something like that from Amazon directly, but not necessarily from the "Amazon Marketplace".

If it's really 1-2 months though to get it, I might hold off. The PMA is in February, and Canon will be jumping ahead of that schedule by doing its main product announcements at CES in January. Either way, I expect a lot more announcements and products.
