5980/60G advice and watch collection consolidation

I feel incredibly fortunate to have built a watch collection over the past seven years that includes the Patek Philippe 6119R, 5212A, 5968A, and 5726/1A; the APRO 15510ST (grey dial); and several Rolex pieces, including the Yacht-Master 42, GMT-Master II “Pepsi,” GMT-Master II “Batman,” Submariner “Hulk,” and Explorer, along with an Omega Seamaster Professional. I enjoy them all and are the result of lots of distillation over the years.

Recently, I’ve been seriously considering adding one of the following Patek Philippe references to my collection of given there opportunity: the 5980/60G, 5712/1R, 5811/1G or the 5164G. I’m fortunate to have an excellent contact at Patek—someone who’s a true enthusiast and friend—and they’ve helped guide me in evaluating these options. It now looks like I may have the opportunity to acquire the 5980/60G.

So, I’d love your input on two questions:
1. If I go for the 5980G, which watches would you recommend parting with to help offset the cost—while keeping in mind that I’d like to preserve my Patek Philippe collection and cannot let go of the Hulk or Explorer?
2. Given my current Patek lineup, would you personally favor any of the other models—such as the 5712/1R, 5811/1G or 5164G—over the 5980G?

I'd love to hear any personal experiences or perspectives from those who own or have spent time with these pieces.

Let go of the YM and the AP and get the PP 5980 - it looks great on your wrist.

Then over time, add the 5712/1r or the 5811/1g for a full gold (bracelet) Patek sports watch. You can figure out what needs to go, if anything, at that time.

to me personally, none of those Rolex models do anything special for me. Neither does the steel royal oak.

I'm a huge Aquanaut advocate. Since I got the 5164 a year and a half ago i've probably taken it off five times to wear my Day Date. Be sure to try one on if you haven't before.

There’s nothing like a full rose gold timepiece. I’d check out the 5712/r to see how it feels and looks.

From your mentioned PP pieces I own 5968A, 5712/1R and 5164G. Got offered 5980/60G last year and declined after two sessions trying it on. Just too boyish imo so I waited some more months and AD came by with the 5164G which I purchased immediately.
5164G has a really nice shade and wears much better than the 5968A. I would advise to wait for that piece.
5712/1R is not comparable with either of both due to its appearance. Strong buy when you get one offered.

Ya I agree, I would get that if you can. Keep the 5968 for sure.

Thanks all- if the opportunity solidifies, I am planning to buy it with the last piece of the sport puzzle, the 5712/1r. I'll be letting th APRO, Pepsi and YM go. Will post pictures if I get it!

Huge fan of the 5980.

Pick one Rolex and release the rest of the Rolex pieces.

Get the "Jeans" 5980 on your wrist!
