What's the general rule that Paneristi's follow? Is the general rule to shelf the OEM straps that are included and use aftermarket straps so as to preserve the OEMs for resale?

Or is there no rule and I'm stupid for thinking this?

That's what I do personally. I'm not a big fan of the OEM unless it's a JV. No rule as a whole though...it's up to you!

Agreed, it is really up to you. I personally put aside the OEM straps that came with my 312 but I already had a half dozen straps for it so it was an easy decision to make.

JV = Jules Verne. it's a nu-buck croc strap that comes in a few different colors.

General rule is the more straps the merrier. OEM or aftermarket doesn't matter.

I've become quite fond of the Gorilla Straps, they hold up well and are handmade here in the states. Plus the pricing is beyond reasonable it makes the strap habit a sometimes weekly buy.

for me there is no rules.
but for my wife. she will match her cloths, shoes.
this is very personal stuff. go and get what you comfortable with.
that is the best for you.

You can't beat the OEM croc straps. Nothing has come close to the brown croc with white stiching that came with my PAM88. I tried some aftermarket straps but nothing lit up the watch like the OEM straps.

... I have now relegated myself to the fact that I will just have to fork over the cash for OEM straps as they wear. :(

I actually agree...as long as you love the combo your good...but for me i keep the OEM straps..and even the deployant clasp...and use the Tang and other customized straps available..but thats just me...

Mix it up with a bit of both - custom straps can be stunning but so can the right OEM straps - i think the OEM gator straps are very good straps.

I think the stock OEM black gator strap with the 312 is quite stunning... but I want an aftermarket for a switch here and there.

I think I'll wait until I've actually worn the 312 for a bit before delving into strap-mania!

All depends. I have just under 1/2 of my watches on OEM straps, but do change them up.
Just depends how I feel that day.
WIfey had more straps than I. Think maybe 4 OEM and 6 Customs. She rotates them based on what she is wearing.
Those numbers are only for her 219.
For her 49, she would have another 4 OEMS and maybe 3 custom.
