Matching watch and band?

So I recently got engaged. I’d always joked with my girlfriend over the years that I always felt like the man gets the short end of the stick when it comes to an engagement. Yes I know a man’s most precious gift should be the simple fact that she said yes but I always felt that we were some how getting burned in this particular deal of life. After all, she is walking around with a ring that cost more than my first car. Of course I had always said this in a joking manner and in no way expected any kind of engagement gift when the actual time came for me to pop the question; engagement gifts for men aren’t a typical thing are they? Well it’s a good thing for me that my wife to be is a very good listener and very generous gift giver because she’s offered to buy me a new Rolex as an engagement gift. I’m overwhelmed beyond words.

So the other day while out looking at wedding bands for the both of us, the wheels in my head started turning. Women like to match their engagement rings and wedding bands, could a man match his band to an engagement watch? Is this a common practice? After really thinking about it, I could probably come up with some pretty cool combos. I’m really leaning towards picking up a new GMT Master IIc; the beautiful ceramic bezel pulls me in every time. So my question to you good folk is, do you like the idea of matching the watch and band? Is it too much? Here are a few photos of my favorite rings. They might be a bit extreme for some, but they fit my style perfectly. The black portions on the rings are ceramic just like the GMT bezel and look much nicer on the hand.

Side note: you should bring yourself and your wife to our GTG tomorrow. We are going to Geary's - great selection there for you to browse. It'd be cool if you bought a watch at the GTG!!! They give discounts...

Go ahead and match them. Not extreme at all!

Again, this is really a personal taste choice. Those rings are a bit busy for many. In theory, (best wishes by the way), your wedding ring will be worn every day for the rest of your life.

I think trying to match a watch you have now might lead you to a choice you otherwise would not have made. Also, how durable are those ceramic inserts over a long period?

My recommendation-keep it basic. No need to match your watch. Plain gold or platinum will always be in style and look and wear well with whatever clothes or watch you have on.

My wedding ring is battered and out of shape. I certainly wouldn't like a ceramic insert it probably wouldn't last 6 months without cracking.
