PCLs disqualify the BLNR from my versatile definition. Explorers and Subs seem to do it all, and really well.

I vote for the explorer, either 36 or 39mm.

Thanks! Her name is Chloe but we always called her Chloe Bear. We lost her a few months ago, but it's ok. She had the best life for nearly 15 years which is really good for a lab! What is your lab's name? They are the best dogs!

It has the painted coronet and the sports hands like the sports models, but the smooth polished bezel and baton hour markers like the dressier models.

I'm just curious if most people feel this way about the Explorer or is there another that takes the title as most versatile Rolex.

Thanks!

Versatile is the DJ. It has a date, can be worn to work, to formal occasions, you can swim, play golf with it, it's sold in different sizes and bracelets... The DJ is the most versatile of watches, not only Rolex.

The beauty of the Rolex sports watch is its versatility, IMO. Picking the one that is the most versatile...well, that would be almost as difficult as picking out the next one.

But I'm beginning to think more is less!

It's a good middle of the road watch that can be worn anywhere.
It's a funny thing.
I'm wearing my Sub now and when I look over at my Explorer sitting on my desk, yes, the Explorer appears to be a boring, dull watch. Compared side by side the Explorer is boring. However..

Something magical happens as soon as I strap on the Explorer. A Sub will still be a Sub wether on my wrist or in showcase. But when I strap on my Explorer she transforms from being a boring watch into the best and most beautiful watch in a way that my Sub will never be. It's as if as soon as you give her a little bit of attention she will open up and show you all her beauty.

That's why it's the watch I wear the most, the watch I will never sell, the watch I feel guilty towards when I buy other watches.

Now that we're in a time where sport watches on bracelets are acceptable with dress attire, I'd say pretty much all Rolex watches are versatile. Just pick what you like.
