November 2015 I walked into an AD and asked for a Rolex chronograph watch and he sold me the last stainless Daytona for the shop. Then 6 months later I got the newly release ceramic white dial stainless Daytona from a Rolex boutique in Waikiki before they shut down. Everything else just come without any expectations like I just got my oyster BLRO today from my long trusted AD. He called yesterday asking if I want to buy another piece of new GMT II, so I came to pickup this afternoon. I also request for a blue dial Daytona or Daydate (rose gold with green dial ok too).

In your hypothetical example and prevailing current market circumstances - if they were to guarantee a piece, I would have no problem waiting longer than a year. However I already own one, with a second coming this month, so I prob wouldn’t take someone else’s spot.

Call it beating a dead horse, but I sure do miss the days of walking into an AD and being able to actually buy whatever you would like.

its also not like you're waiting outside of the AD shop for a year camped out in a tent - you request and in the meantime likely have other incredible watches
the only issues with waiting are if its the one watch you want and / or want it quickly to commemorate some event - OR if the AD isn't even willing to entertain your request bc 'list' is too long |

BINGO! My wife and I are expecting twins this year and I'm turning 40 next year. Chances of actually getting the call in that time frame, slim to none. |

Zero.
Not in the business of providing customer finance to ADs. |

I'd much rather a PM Daytona so i'm hoping it's not a 2-3 year wait

I prefer a 16520. Therefore, nothing.
I also prefer the most important chronograph in history, the Speedmaster Moonwatch. |
