As others have said, if it’s the configuration you were after (or close) and you love the watch, sure you did the right thing, and congrats on your new watch!

But you did the right thing because you like it, not because you scored a watch at MSRP that sells for more on the secondary market, or because it’s particularly difficult to obtain. I’m fairly sure any AD could get you that configuration (or something close) fairly quickly, without purchase history, and at MSRP if they don’t already have it in stock.

Post pics though!

Greek VAT is 24%, so the total paid with VAT was 1.24 times the base price, and so you get back the 0.24, which as a percentage of price paid is 0.24/1.24 = 19.4%.
before fees

and if he doesn't declare back into the states and need to pay tax upon arrival which should also be figured in.

At last, in Greece there was one available. It’s not my first choice of watch, but decided to take it considering how rare I’ve read it’s been to find at a boutique or AD. It’s a two tone datejust, fluted bezel, black dial with diamonds, oyster bracelet. I don’t know if this is a very sought after model..

Getting around 20% VAT back.

Did I do the right thing by purchasing it? Thanks for the help.

Edit:

I like the watch and I am never going to resell it.

What I wonder is if I actually got lucky with this watch or if this is one of the more easily available models right now (considering the lack of inventory everywhere)
If you VAT refund is via global blue, I wish you luck. Complete scam.

The watch is nice though, congrats.

TT Datejust is not that sought-after, it's relative common watches everywhere......

Buy what you like, not buy what's popular
