If you enjoy the avant garde then the Milgauss is the obvious choice.

if you want 'investment potential' go for the milgauss GV. One of these days, Rolex is going to stop producing these, and the value of the GV will go way up. I see no prospect
for that to happen to the GMTII-c. But it it's just to put what floats your boat on your wrist, why ask anyone else at all? best of luck, it's a great dilemma to have........ |

My concern is the GMT/Sub is too much like my Superocean... that said I love the way it my SO looks, and perhaps Im hankering for something classier, but with similar looks!!
Q - Would a fair comparisons be Milgauss GV and black face V Sub no date, then GMT II v Sub Date? Seems fair to compare those with and without date on equal footing. Also if I say I like the Panerai PAM 90 also, do I deserve to be shot by firing squad? Are Panerai just a gimmick, or are the quality watches? |

The Breitling SO is a great watch. I was under the impression, perhaps falsely, that you were selling it to fund a new watch. One of the points I was going to make was that the GMTIIC would appeal to you as it has a chunkier look and an aviation heritage (presumably things that drew you to Breitling as a brand). Let me go back and re-dissect your points.
To me the question is either Milgauss GV or GMT/Sub. If you decide GMT/Sub then you need to make a second decision there. If you are keeping the SO then the Sub makes little practical sense unless you are completely in love with the way it looks: that is, you already own a dive watch. If you like the way the Sub looks but want something a little different and this is your introduction to Rolex then the GMTIIC is the way to go hands down. To me it is the best introductory sports model Rolex out there right now. I am a Sub owner, I love my Sub, but at the time I knew little about the brand and bought the watch that was most popular and having learned more I kind of wish I got a GMTIIC. As I built a collection I wanted more unusual pieces. Maybe you're like me, maybe you're not. Now for the GV. If you get the GV and you come across another Rolex lover in the wild, you will get the head nod. Even people who hate the GV personally respect that timepiece in the wild because it is "avante garde" (great adjective used above). It's the Rolex for people who do not want a classic looking Rolex but still respect the quality and build of the brand. I will say without hesitation however that if you only ever plan on owning one Rolex, this might not be the piece for you in the long run. You might wish you had something more iconic. I personally love the Milgauss GV. It's the watch that when you see it in person it pops out of the display case. Pictures just dont do it justice. I think Panerai are cool watches but it would take a lot of Rolex and Breitling before I would buy one. It's just my two cents. I like that they have their niche and maintain their overall look without changing much. Does that make them gimmicky? I don't know. I believe they are quality watches, I have tried a few on but I am by no means a horological expert. |

Love them both...but agree on the GMTIIC first approach. The Milgauss can wait.

Cool thanks all..great input Raveger 135... V valid points..... Can't help but think there is little point in spending a few £000 on a similar looking watch....that's the angel on the left shoulder... The devil on the other shoulder says "what the hell, get both"...: ha ha ....

They are both great watches, I find myself putting the GMT2C on my wrist more often than the GV if that is anything to go by. Good luck whichever way you go

GMT over Milgauss all day. I prefer sub over GMT partially because I think the brushed center links are better for everyday wear. Also I think the bezel on the GMT makes the dial look smaller/not as good. I'm definitely splitting hairs here, as they are both awesome and it's a hard choice...but if I had to choose it would be the sub.

Have both... I say GMTIIC as a first, GV as a 2nd.

Yes I'm surprised at the stats...prob 90%+ in favour of GMT.....
Poor Milly I do agree though...if its to the the one and only then I get why it would be the gmt/sub There is £700 difference in sub date or no date.... So that's another thing to ponder Nothing a trip to the AD can't solve hopefully... |

Went into the AD today and tried on Milgauss, Sub date and GMT.
The Sub and GMT are not different enough from my SO to trade (yes I know you can say the name, brand, exclusivity) etc... but there just isnt enough to spend a few £000's and part ex a watch I love... The Milgauss looked good, and is very different... that said, I cant give up my SO that easily so will have to save to buy the Milgauss outright I think. Thanks for the nods guys |

First one would be a gmt iic, then later I would add the Milgauss.

Having a Breitling SO 44 and Rolex Milgauss in the next few months sounds better than me having a GMT II, no SO and having to wait a long time for the Milly.... Here's to hope anyway
